After playing RB: The Beatles, *the* benchmark for band specific games, it was clear to me that to produce such a rich experience, a band needs:

1) A significant catalog of guitar friendly songs
2) Strong associated imagery to use in game

I can think of three bands that meet the criteria:

1) Iron Maiden (It's been said, a lot)
2) Pink Floyd
3) Kiss

And, for those asking, you're very unlikely to ever get Led Zeppelin. AFAIK, Jimmy Page despises band games.

LED ZEPPELIN! They are my favorite band of all time. Every intrument would be used to fullest extent. Jimmy Page is one of the best guitarists ever, Robert Plant has one of the most iconic voices in rock, John Bonham is in my personal top 3 drummers ever (possibly the best), John Paul Jones is the bassist and I actually remember his name, that should be enough to prove he rules. They have tons of songs ranging in length, intensity and style, so their music is ideal for a GH/RB track list.

Rush Rock Band.

Epic vocals, epic guitar, epic bass, epic drums, epic keyboard.

Oh, and playing 2112 , their 20 minute rock anthem, would be awesome.
Do it, NOW. Ohh btw The new guitar hero is going to have 2112 in its entirety, So you got ninja'd by Harmonix then I guess :D

Queens of the Stone Age or Ok Go.

With Ok Go, sure they only have 3 albums but they're all extremely fun to play so I could see it work on GH or RB

Motley Crue and Alice Cooper

Actually I'd like an Alice Cooper/Ozzy Osbourne combo set. For some reason in my mind they go together like Pacino and DeNiro.

Because the band are very protective of their music and also believe that these games stop people playing real instruments.
I love the Zep, but they are well up their own arses about these games.
At the the same time... a small part of me would be sad if they did make one.
to be honest, to a degree they are right and my brother will confirm this

shortly before i ever played one of those games (then bought it) was considering playing the guitar, then after i had played rockband for a while i just kind of lost interest

regardless he still learned to play bass so it just depends on the person i guess

Dream Theater, especially with the keyboard controller.
Wouldn't work, 'cause no one would be able to finish any of the songs. Except John Petrucci.

Seriously though, that would be cool. That, and Rock Band: Radiohead.

Between the Buried and Me. That would just be fucking hilarious to watch people try to play.

Well... how about a Guitar Hero/Rock Band Black Sabbath? If it's possible to get the rights to do so, a Rock Band: Led Zeppelin would rock as well, but I don't know that they are into that kind of thing. There's always The Who or Rush though.

okay, i know i am going to catch flak for this, but i would definitely like to see Creed. let the haters begin their mouth foaming, but you don't go platinum multiple times without good tunes.
Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Guns and Roses would also be amazing

Even though I've been ninja'd on like one thousand bands, I still want to say that Rock Band: RATM would be the only Rock Band game I would buy.

Also now that they're adding a keyboard, Rock Band: The Doors would be incredible, provided that the keyboard doesn't suck.

I think it depends on how determined you are, to be fair. I attempted many times to learn the guitar, long before any of these games came out. I did go on to play bass for a while, but these games scratch that itch.

For a classic Rock snob, you'd think you'd know how to spell the name of one of the greatest bands in history.

;)
