the thing is they did sing about similar stuff BUT the songs sounded the same, that's where they sell out

look at public enemy or boogie down productions, 2 highly political bands, but you can't take lyrics from one album and stick it on the music from another and have it work like ratm did
I don't know, the first album's undoubtedly their masterpiece but I think that they've got a lot of different sounds that came in on the next two albums. There's not really anything on the first album that sounds like The New Sound, Down Rodeo, Mic Check or Roll Right.

Sure the singing sounds the same, but Zack's got such a distinctive voice that it'd be hard for him to vary his vocals too much.

Anyway, I'd like to add Incubus to the pile. Their first album is awesome, but everything after that is fairly whiny and annoying. I'll also see your Foo Fighters and raise you the Chilli Peppers.

Would have to be System of a Down for me...

the first album and Toxicity were utter brilliance
Steal this Album... was alright but they started to lose their subtlety
Enter Mesmerise and Hypnotise - *facepalm* just...no.

Children of Bodom, everything up to Follow the Reaper has Melodic Metal feel to it which was amazing and made me feel that they were one of the best bands of all time, then it all went downhill, 'Are you Dead Yet?' has to be one of the biggest disappointments in history, everything about it was terrible, it felt good to burn that disk.
Blooddrunk goes back to the Hate Crew Deathroll sound, but it's still not as good as Hatebreeder. Overall it kicks the piss out of Are You Dead Yet?. I heard it was due to them trying to establish a larger fanbase in the states, seeing as how most people appreciate a "heavy" sound over a melodic sound for metal.

this thread is going to decend into a violent orgy of band fanboys and girls, beating each other senseless with their own stupid
Hooray!

In that spirit, I'm going to throw Linkin Park and Nine Inch Nails into the mix.

How about the Spice Girls and The Backstreet Boys. Granted, I never really cared about either group in the first place, but they used to be BIG. Now both groups have gotten back together and the overwhelming reaction has been 'why?'

If you want a real flash in the pan, Fatboy Slim. There was a good five minutes he was famous before everyone realized he was just singing the same line again over and over and over and over. Yeah, "right about now, the funk's so brother" is odd, but it's not quite the riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a vest it needs to be to contemplate for five minutes straight.

That brings me to SUGAR RAY...

All I can say is thank God they're gone. Now I can stop sawing my own arms off trying to escape the prison that is their music. Please don't tell me they could come back; I would like to enjoy my delusion of freedom.

The ultimate band/performer we all just stopped giving a crap about, though, would have to be Michael Jackson. Thriller was just about the highest selling album of all time. The man made billions off his music, but now? Now we don't even care when he's running around in a Cobra Commander mask with a chimpanzee, seducing pre-pubescent boys on chemo.

"Whatever. They should've figured out not to spend the night in his bedroom back in the nineties... I wonder what's on CSPAN."

It doesn't get much more 'stopped giving a crap' than that.

I think this is the case with not just certain bands in general.
They always have there ups but there are also downs
due to them trying to fit in, biting off more than they can chew, change, and also making comebacks when they really shouldnt ruining what they had for themselves.
Think most bands are guilty of this at some point or another in there careers.

Pretty much all of the ones I used to listen to. Every band that's had hype, I've bought into, but I've stopped following stupid trends and hype. Now, my iTunes library consists of mostly video game music because it's the only thing I'll listen to and not get some wierd meaning.

Slipknot, shame on those who still listen to them... They're a good metal band to be introduced to and gradually go heavier and heavier...

funny slipknot story

they were complaining on the last tour they did with gwar and the rest, the singer pf slipknot was saying how hard it was to wear the mask and overalls and such. Oderus from gwar said "shut the hell up you pansy, you chose to wear that, try wearing 25 pounds of pvc like i do every night for 20 years and then come talk to me about how much it sux"

i laughed, tho not as much as the time Oderus tore a new one for the guy from disturbed

I totally agree with you on that. I was introduced to Slipknot by a friend of mine's big brother, and since then I've listened to Metal practically constantly.

This, however:

Is bullshit. The Subliminal Verses was absolutely awesome, as are all of their albums.

Metallica. Starting with St. Anger they stopped sounding like Metallica and more like they were trying to sound like Metallica. If that makes any sense.

Agreed, Subliminal Verses bought me back to them. There was a time (probably around Iowa) when I thought they were just for angsty, misguided teens, but as a musician I could not deny the raw appeal of their music.

I like the subliminal verses, but not in it's entirity as I did for instance Iowa and the self-titled album... were the ones that made me love them... but they're just old news now... but I can't deny that if they had a show here, no matter what I would go see them because I know they can give a hell of a show even though I got bored of them...
