OK so i'm currently sitting in my office at work listening to some of my music and I was wondering what bands members of the Escapist felt were underrated to the point of near obscurity. The genre doesn't matter just mention which bands you feel don't get the credit they deserve.
For me the big'uns are:
Ensiferum
Sonata Arctica
16Volt
Adema.
I honestly can't say. For example The Doors, who are a well known and iconic band, aren't that appreciated here, in fact I've never met a single person who likes them (yes I know there's a reason for that, and no I don't want you to link me last.fm Doors fanclub sites). Also The Vandals. Wouldn't count them among bands you must hear before you die; but they never fail to bring a smile to my face.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Alter Bridge needs to be more famous... so they can lay this "Creed"-thingy that they have there with their no-talent singer to rest and keep on making incredible music.
Also, there are some heavy metal bands that are just underrated.
Masterplan is my personal favorite, but are considered a Helloween-side project having taken on a life of its own.
Then we have Symphony X, the best prog band around, but THEY get overshadowed by the likes of Dream Theater, it seems to me.
Oh... oh, right.
I'm well aware these aren't borderline obscure but they're not exactly top 40 or household names despite worse acts being 10 times more popular. I should probably learn some more music jargon before trying to write reviews, so I don't think I'll bother trying to get into depth.
- The Mad Conductor.
They used to be a punk band (No-Cash) and then reformed as this weird rap/funk/hip-hop/reggae band. They're different and it's refreshing. They also incorporate random sounds into their songs that work really well.
Tells their story as No-Cash Letras de canciones en Espanol ^^ This one reminds me of 80s pop towards the end.
- Antiskeptic.
Sure, their name is kind of lame and they split a few years ago, but they were one of my first favourite bands. There's nothing incredibly unique about them, but their lyrics are positive but not cheesy or preachy and they just generally er... sound good (not very good at this review thing). I really liked their first two albums and I can't even find my favourite songs my them on youtube except for a crappy live version of one of them.
Their most popular song which I didn't like as much.
- Alchemist
Decent lyrics (not just blatant angsty "rarr i'm so br00tal" lyrics) and unique sound. Avant-garde metal in general is underrated.
Do they believe in aliens? Disappointed I couldn't find Beyond Genesis.
- Turquoise Jeep Lyrics: Flynt Flossy, Slick Mahony, Pretty Raheem, and Yung Hummmma. They're satirical, right? They have to be. At least partially. They're kind of hilarious and their songs are catchy.
- One Last Wish and Rites of Spring, pretty much any band with Guy Picciotti in it.
Supposedly started the emo genre with "emocore", hardcore punk with more personal, sensitive lyrics, but I disagree with converging his work with some of the drivel of today that's called emo. Obviously those masses of kids subscribing to the emo fashion didn't care for this, considering the amount of views on these.
crap quality but stfu it's beautiful (edit: lol I accidentally posted an Andrew WK song here before]
I love End on End.
- Screaming Lord Sutch
He did all the crazy horror-themed stage antics before that Alice Cooper guy.
Still annoyed at whoever took the longer version of this off for copyright shit
Ensiferum are quite popular as far as metal goes, like Children of Bodom. Sonata Arctica less so. I guess it's easy to feel like they're obscure if metal is stigmatized by so many people.
As for the other two, tbh my immediate impression of them was "angsty and generic" like a lot of those nu-metal or post-grunge bands. They look like the kind of bands that get signed at the peak of the popularity of their genre to milk the dollar of all the "alternative" kids. They're not really bad or anything, just not particularly special?

The Unicorns. Canadian pop rock band. It's overtly childish, covertly intelligent, but it's still damn catchy.
