I wish something that epic would take the US by storm...all I really see is a bill every now and then with that "WheresGeorge.com" site or whatever, where you're supposed to register and track the bill as a sort of social experiment to see how far money travels. I don't really have anything against the idea, I'm just never too concerned about my money when I'm in a situation where I can sit down and do that.
There was LionCash, back in 2008, though it didn't carry much further than 4chan and a bunch of Reddit for more than a couple of years. Still, I got one before, so I'd call it a success

Edit: Might as well point out that in the US, it's alright to draw on currency so long as you don't make it unusable. So be careful not to cover the serial number, signatures, etc. Otherwise, have fun.

What?! I live in Canada and have never come across one of these beauties. I'd never even heard of this until now. Please tell me that the highest concentration of these are in Vulcan, Alberta.

You know, of all the countries in the world that might still have lese-majeste laws on the books, Canada is probably the last I would've expected.
I don't see why, outside of the UK we take it seriously here (to gain citizenship or join the military you swear an oath to the Queen). Something to remember is that what separates Canadians from Northern State Americans is, other then French, that we are monarchists. Hell, I know a lot of people who joke that a Canadian Republican is called an American. Hell, I personally lament the fact our official name is 'just' Canada instead of "The Kingdom of Canada" since we are a kingdom (this was the fault of the British, who thought that our fair Dominion would be better off without the title after our independence as they believed it would possibly offend the Americans).

TD;DR, we take "for queen and country" seriously.
Oh, I know you're as monarchist as they come- if asking for less representation in the government didn't show that, nothing would- I'm just surprised at the affront to free speech.

Honestly you probably never saw them for banks have a tendency to remove bank notes that have a percentage of damage or alteration to them from circulation. It might still be legal tender, but it doesn't mean it will still is allowed to circulate. Some stores I know of will put notes that aren't in good condition at the bottom of the stack of notes in their cash drawers so they will go back to the bank over being left into circulation, it is also what happened when they introduced the new notes, they gave out the new notes first and then distributed the older ones.

well we all know what happens now...you'll be hard pushed not to find one.

somewhere else will probably actually put Spock on a banknote.

Humanity! whatchagonnnado :p
It will be still be difficult to see one since those particular bank notes had their production discontinued about a year and a half ago and I haven't seen any from a retailer in months.

I fear the Bank of Canada's pleads will only drive people to further Spocking. Actually that sounds like a better world to live in.

Just another reason to hate our shitty new plastic money.

OT: Having worked in retail for many years, I have seen many of these pass through my till. The first time (years ago) I was pretty confused as to why someone would do it. I mean it's funny but Sir Wilfrid Laurier really doesn't look like Leonard Nimoy.

In the interest of clarification; it is illegal to deface an image of the Queen. This makes it illegal - since she's on all our money, even the long gone penny - to 'destroy' Canadian currency. Defacing our founding fathers is fine though. And frankly they seemed like mostly okay people who'd probably - if alive today and aware of Spock - find the whole thing hilarious, maybe even flattering. So it isn't criminal and it is pretty funny. I wonder, is Spocking a bill a way to make a bill go from a 5$ to a 6$ bill though?
That doesn't stop people drawing beards. on the face of the Queen on UK currency.

Actually, it's one of the things in this video:
