Barack Obama said something unflattering about video games.

Jesus Christ, all that hate for such an innocent statement? All he said is that if you play video games all day you probably won't be winning the Nobel prize... I fail to see how he was unreasonable or ignorant or whatever. He has a point.

Overreact much?

Not gonna make that mistake again. I'll either vote Republican or stay home in 2012.
Please don't :( Just look at the way Republicans are voting on financial reform. They have sold out to the lobbyists 100%. Look at how they voted on the "anti-rape" bill. Look at how they lie about financial reform being another bailout bill for the banks (in fact the banks would pay into a fund to bail themselves out). Look at how they lied that the public option would have increased debt instead of reducing it.

Really you have no one good to vote for, but unfortunately Obama/Democrats are still the lesser of 2 evils.

You should see how shit for choice we are in Australia. I can choose between a 50% rightwing position or a 45% rightwing position.

YAY FOR DEMOCRACY!
If the Republicans put up a Tea Party-type candidate, I'll just stay home. I have the right to vote. I also have the right NOT to vote if my only choices are between a shit sandwich and a kick in the head.

We have no viable third party choice in America, and the two parties we do have are just as bad as the one-party states elsewhere in the world. They strangle out and choke off real change and improvement in the name of letting the people "choose" how they will be exploited and treated like lambs to the slaughter.

Personally, I favor turning Washington, DC into a smoking, radioactive crater and starting over. I've been to DC. I like the place better in Fallout 3. Super Mutants would be preferable to politicians.

He said that an education is more important than video games. He said that video games can distract one from their schoolwork. Both of these are true. Education is more important than video games, and video games have distracted numerous students from their schoolwork.

Just because it is unflattering doesn't make it wrong.

I don't entirely disagree with him. While games are certainly not bad things, they can be distractions.

I don't see how is comment on how he doesn't know how to work anything technological helps him at all though. If anything I'd think it would take away credibility. Must be pandering to the crowd that doesn't know anything about technology.

Instead of tossing one of the two aside (education and entertainment), find time in your life for both.

I said it before and Ill say it again
Obama is a jackass!
I hope you're being sarcastic. He's not saying to never listen to music or play a video game in your life. He's saying to make sure you don't neglect your studies.

Wait wait wait. You aren't going to vote for him again, or any Democrats for that matter, merely because he said, essentially "education is more important than video games, and video games can be a distraction"? Or is there another reason? Because it would appear as if you have rather low standards for politicians. They seem to merely need to enjoy video games to get your vote.

Umm, no? He just said it is a distraction from actual important things, like education. That's true, you know. He isn't trying to take it away. I don't recall him ever saying he wants Microsoft to stop selling 360s.

Massive deficits, escalating the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, failing to repeal No Child Left Behind, his inept handling of the Wall Street regulation discussion and the bailouts, the GM fiasco, Obamacare...

Believe me, it ain't just video games.

Yes, video games are so evil when studies have shown that when played in moderation that it can help the brain activity and make you smarter. Most politicians don't understand the first thing about video games and I'm so sick of all the ignorant crap they say about it, and not just Obama.

Okay, I was just making sure. That'd be a little ridiculous if so.

Well, it is sad that we have a president so woefully out of touch with the latest entertainment technology. Sure, it does take its toll on education. But just like he said, it also has great potential, if utilized correctly. Two sides of the same coin.

So what? We just have a political pendulum that swings back and forth reaching larger and larger extremes between each transition? If you thought he was the lesser of two evils then chances are to your perspective he still would be the lesser of two evils. I'm not gonna get into who I support but in your case you should be thinking about how the other candidates (and yes I realize in the US election you can cut off the 's') would have reacted to every event that's happened thus far and what policies they would have pushed. Chances are you would be complaining about president too and would be vowing to vote for the other party next election.

Pick a candidate you can support (at least better then the others), vote for that guy, screw what party they belong to. Vote on the issues and record of the candidate.

A politician that has a low opinion of video games, quickly alert the ninjas!

Also fire = hot
Grass = green (or brown depending on how well you keep it up)
and bears shit in the woods.

I think that takes care of our daily scientific revelations gentlemen.

Did anyone actually read the article, because he's right you know. He's not saying games are in any way bad, he's just using games as a reference when pointing out that people need to prioritize things properly if they want to get things done. That people need to take games in moderation, rather than let them or any other distraction (He also says the Ipod & Ipad, but I don't see Apple fans screaming out for blood!) get in the way of what is important!

How is that in any way an insult towards gaming? Bloody Hell. Obama could say 'I like puppies' and there'd be mobs misinterpreting his words and forming riots. I find it ridiculous!

Reminds me why I try to ignore American politics as much as possible, too sensationalized.

He is 100% correct. The only thing I take issue with is "none of which I know how to work". I hate it when people say things like this as if it is some kind of achievement, something to be proud of.

"I don't even know how to read"
"I don't even know who the President is"
"I have no idea how Facebook works"

Well WELL DONE dumbass. Ignorance is a defect, not an accomplishment.

Still, I love how some people here are now fully endorsing Satan's own Republican Party just because Obama hasn't completed Fallout 2 yet.

And if you hate the main candidates every single time? As I mentioned earlier, I think the only saving grace left for America would be very Fallout 3-inspired.
