My brother pulled Total Annihilation from a bargain bin once. That game was so good that I still have never played Starcraft because of it.

It does have some faults and I know that the game was even worse before a certain patch but I still managed to have fun for the first 30 hours (then the patrols just never stopped coming and fighting against 40 Level 5 soldiers is a test of patience).
Just use Peter "Wolf" Sanderson. Wolf with a shotgun is completely game-breaking, even if it's a pump-action (with a semi-automatic he's just stupidly powerful). Because of his bonuses he can typically fire a shot or two before the enemies even have a chance to react to his presence, and because of the damage and spread of shotguns that's usually all he needs to take down multiple targets. He's equally as awesome as a frontline merc for breaching and clearing buildings as he is at defending choke points.

I played BiA twice through, and both times he was my top merc. Followed by Sheila "Scope" Sterling, because sniping is also hilariously overpowered in that game (or was, at least - fog of war hadn't been implemented yet when I played).

If you like BiA though, you should really pick up JA2 (the game BiA is trying to ape). JA2, especially with the 1.13 patch, is pretty much the king of squad-based tactical games.

Supreme Commander I once got from a bargain bin for 5 euros. I haven't regretted that purchace since and I've goten lots of hours out of that game. Supreme strategy that definately sold me on large scale sci-fi strategy.

Next to that there's a load of games I got from various steam sales for even less but I guess those don't count here.

I think that's how I found the original Monster Hunter for the PS2. There was a guy fighting a bad ass dinosaur-dragon thing and I thought it looked pretty damn cool. I loved the game. Even got that adapter so I could connect my PS2 to the internet and a controller that had a keyboard built in. It was the first game I played online. Good times.

I remember randomly buying Gauntlet Dark Legacy for the Gamecube many years ago from a PC World - the only time I think I've bought a game from there - without ever hearing of the series before.

My siblings were doubters, but it turned out to be quite the time sink.. and fun!

RED JESTER, IS NOW A LEVEL 99!!!! LEGEND!!!

Epic.
I played this at Dave & Busters back when they had it. Awesome game, and I definitely need to grab another copy...assuming I can find one.

Yakuza 3 and, Golden Sun DS were both bargain bin game I found at a Toys R Us. I knew about and was anticipating GS but I just couldn't get into it...Yakuza 3 however is a game that I'm having a lot of fun with! We may not have a third Shenmue but hey, the Yakuza series is a great substitute! I'm only in the fourth chapter or so and I've been playing other games as well but I'm having a lot of fun with Yakuza. I'm considering looking into other entries and a bit annoyed that the US likely won't see Issun...oh well, PS4 is region free so there's that.

Im not that big fan of turn based combat, I had already tried JA2 and even though I saw that it offered a lot of cool stuff the turn based nature of the combat put me off a bit. I also bought another game that I ended up not managing to get the hang of it, its called 7,62 High Calibre. I heard a lot of good and bad about this game, its a bit like playing a vanilla STALKER where there is a lot of shit to endure in the middle of a lot of cool stuff. Sadly I didnt understand shit of how the combat is managed (it seems I can only give one order at a time, eh...) so I kind of gave up.

It better to play with the Blue Sun Mod that can even be installed directly via Steam, it patches a lot of shit and adds a lot of content.

7:15 has all the weapons shown. It also brings the Jagged Alliance mercenaries for hire.

So yeah, the game is dirt cheap and you may enjoy it (sadly I didnt) if you are into those games.

I mainly tried BiA because it reminded me of Commandos with a pause menu to time the orders more easily, I remember playing Commandos 2 when I was younger and managing to get some missions done but last time I played it was a complete mess, I dont know how I was ever good enough at it (3 is easier, in that one I still got about 4 missions done)

Whilst not technically a bargain bin game I did pick up Conkers Bad Fur Day for the N64 from gamestation a few years ago just a matter of luck really but 1) what a brilliant game and 2) I only paid 3 quid for it and the cartridge alone is now going on ebay for 40+, terrific bargain.

It may not be fair here, but I once found a sealed copy of Dungeon Keeper 2 a few years ago. But I knew that game by heart already, so not really a chance buy.
Dungeon Keeper 1, on the other hand, I found on vacation in a bargain bin and loved it. Courious that both games share their fate...

I found Psychonauts for the original Xbox for $5. It was the only copy in a cylindrical bin somewhere, probably Toys R Us. The cover art looked weird enough to make me interested. Also, you know, it was five bucks. This led me to buy it for both PC (Humble Bundle I think) and PSN many years later. Felt like I should do my part to "send a message".

I also found Crimson Skies at random, got that for $7. And strangely enough, one of my favorite games from the original Xbox era was Conflict Global Terror, which I found for $3 in another bargain bin at Toys R Us. The game itself has terrible graphics and aggravating flaws, but there's something fundamentally beautiful about having the freedom to switch between all members of a team and control them, similar in spirit to the first Ghost Recon.

I found my first copy of Guilty Gear in a bargain bin at my mall's EB Games. I thought it looked neat so I bought it for three bucks. Now I've played literally every Guilty Gear and BlazBlue game out there. Same for Baten Kaitos which I still hold up as my favorite Alternative-Style RPG's and probably my third favorite RPG ever after FFIX and Chrono Trigger

This will have 2 entries.....Legit and Non-Legit.

Legit: Vanquish for PS3. I stumbled upon it at the local gamestop equivalent and enjoyed the hell out of it. Lots of entertainment for $7.50

Non-Legit: Half-life for PC. The game had been out for maybe 3 months when I found it in a bargain bin at a Staples. I figured someone just tossed it in there rather than putting it back on the shelf. I figured I'd ask anyway. The guy said I was correct and that it didn't belong there but since my father was purchasing a few bookshelves, they'd sell it to me for $20.

I recall finding a ps1 game called shadow madness for $5 when our local video store was selling off some old stock. I had never heard of it before it was an rpg and i was kind of poor at the time. It never had a sequel and I never hear anyone talk about it because it did have a lot of flaws (the inventory system was jut broken and there was a maze level that was control snappingly hard being the two big one) but there were a lot of good things that the game did right.

-extra party members didn't just sit around twiddling their thumbs you had a 3 person party and when you hit person 4 you divided into two teams of 2 and went after two different goals.
-no real grinding. all random fights could be dodged on the world map you would hear a monster noise and if you pressed a button you could crouch down and the monster wouldn't know you were there. There were non random fights that always made sense story wise this place is over run with werewolves or this other with bandits and the fights are sprites on screen that don't respawn. In fact if i remember correctly you had to fight the bandits as they were in your way but the werewolf town you could just go around. These kinds of fights and the boss fights leveled you enough for the end boss.
-there was an item called Pandora's box and if you used it you got a cg cut scene of the world blowing up and it killed you to use it.
-it had a story reason for why you have to go everywhere and do all the side quests. the big bad is a manifestation of an idea you see and as long as someone in the world is aware of this idea he can not be destroyed but because your party has been all over the world helping people and word of your heroics has spread you have become a more powerful idea than the big bad.
-there was a forest that was so thick that people sailed around on the treetops in boats
-There was an underground world cut off from the main one and they used a different currency and had different items.

so yeah i don't even know if I'd call this a hidden gem for the ps1 and that system had a lot of good games and good rpgs for sure but this one was almost a really good game as it had a lot of really good ideas i haven't really seen done anywhere else since and well worth the $5 I paid for it. though to be honest if i had anything else to play at the time I likely would have dropped it probably at the 10th item i got after my inventory filled up....so maybe an hour into the game. Which is probably why no one talks about this game as no one had the patience to fight with the inventory. I think something as simple a 20 more inventory slots and the game would have sold a lot better.

Certainly Jade Empire, I got it for 5$ and loved it of course.

Otherwise do digital sales count? If so I bought Dust An Elysian Tale for 7$ off of Xbox live. I hope to experience this again later this summer since I just bought three games I never heard of during the GOG.com Isomina sale, for 2$ each.

Dark souls: PTDE it was 7.50 when I brought it, it was laggy glitchy I had install 2 mods and get a new controller for it.. But you know something, it was still pretty darn good

Dungeon of Dremor, it was about 3-4 dollar when I picked it up, I spend about 40 hours on it. Endlessly dying

STALKER clear sky + call of Priypcat, it was 4 bucks when I picked it up IIRC. Still need to finish clear sky

The older XCOM pack for about 2 dollar, best turn base strat I've played for a long time (I believe it also had shit load of mods too)

"Echo Night: Beyond", on the PS2. An odd little Japanese import 1st person survival horror title in which you play an astronaut wandering around a deserted moon base. You'd encounter ghosts of the base's former residents, and had to puzzle out what each one needed in order to "move on", while at the same time managing your fear levels around them to keep your heart from popping. It was kind of awkward, but it had AMAZING atmosphere.

Part of the reason "Routine" (1 [http://www.routinegame.com/] , 2 [http://www.lunar-software.com/]) is the game I've been most looking forward to for the last year or two is because it reminds me so very, very much of EN:B.
Echo Night: Beyond was brilliant, and I agree, it is most of the reason I want Routine once it comes out.

My favorite bargain bin find would have to be Disaster Report. An oddball survival game in which your primary goal is to survive in a city built on a man made island that is slowly being ripped apart by an earthquake. The voice acting was iffy but overall I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

A good portion of my PS3 collection are games I picked up once they hit the bargin bin (Sleeping Dogs, Twisted Metal, SSX, Sly Collection, Far Cry 3, and Max Payne 3 being a few examples). However, I have yet to fall in love with any of them. Something about how little I payed for them gives me little incentive to actually sit down and spend quality time to them. I always approach them with the attitude of "oh, I can get to that later" since they were all impulse purchases and not something I really wanted to play despite knowing that a good portion of them are likely quality.

However, when I was younger I remember picking up some pretty great bargin bin games in the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox days. Most notable would probably be Metal Arms which essentially became the "Halo" of Gamecube games among my friends.

Three, I guess... but that was a long time ago... on the GameCube... (Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn...)

-Tales of Symphonia: What's funny is that when I first bought this for the GameCube, I thought that my rival in middle school was lying about the game being awesome and shit... and, as it turned out, he wasn't lying at all...

-Odama: Not to be confused with Obama (because certain search engines seem to think otherwise), I remember watching X-Play review this game before (on the same episode they reviewed Kingdom Hearts 2) and on the same day I picked it up, the same day I ended up beating it and REALLY wanted to replay the game again...

-Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix: Despite the game being "n00b's first DDR game" in the difficulty department, I guess, I still kinda wished this game got another sequel the more I end up thinking about it...
