a hero, sure, a super hero...no, there's nothing special enough about him to make him 'super'

Super strength, super intelligent.
Remember, 'super' means 'really good'

So yes he's 'really good' at being a hero.

If by super you mean "fucking rich beyond all measure", then sure.

Not only that, but being only human while still taking on those that are much more than that (and keeping SUPERMAN in check) and beating them, he becomes a superhero. His super power is essentially his wit and resolve.

I mean come on, Mr. Terrific is a superhero for being the seventh most intelligent person in the D.C. Universe. If he's a superhero, then anyone is.

I think it's time to revive the chat in the Comic Book Group again....

But he has no real Super Powers. Super Strength? As much as he worked out, he doesn't have anything "otherworldly" strong about him. Super Intelligent? Yes, he's smart, no arguing there, but he doesn't possess knowledge of the cosmos...

A Super Hero requires Super Powers. Mind you this is all opinion based, as I don't read DC. But friends who do read it do agree (for the most part) that Batman is an amazing Hero, but he is not a Super Hero.

I am so sick of this discussion, it's completely up to your own oppinion on what makes a super-hero. For example the Oxford dictionary defines them as having super powers, whereas the more popular culture driven Wikipedia and TV tropes say that's it not necessarily a requirement, rather it's the costume and codename. Then there's the fact the word hero comes from greek mythology often as a word to refer to demi-gods and protagonists with supernatural powers such as Hercules, Achilles and Perseus. So super-hero could be deemed tautological.

So it's six of one and half a dozen of another.

(I personally think it's one's actions that determine whether one is a super-hero, how can Batman not be a superhero but Arms Fall Off Boy is?)

Yes, he is a super hero.

I think people need to remember what a (basic)hero is. Its a police officer or firefighter or soldier that bravely endangers him/herself in the line of duty to save the lives of others(other heroic situations exist, but this is the kind of event where the word 'hero' shows up the most).

Batman brings down entire gangs, crime syndicates, and SUPER VILLIANS.

Even from the view of Superhero = Super-powered hero only, it could be argued that Batman and others like him have the superpower of being really good at beating people up.

[edit]
Whereas Superman gets his clock cleaned by every super powered yokel that passes through the Solar system

So is Bruce Lee a superhero?

You are just describing highly trained fighters.
Yeah, because that is the only thing he can do, punch and kick....

He has all his gadgets and vehicles aswell. Which brings me to a question:

Is Ironman a superhero? he has no powers. So does that mean he isn't 'super'.

And as for Bruce Lee, if you go by the movies he did take out an entire Dojo of highly trained fighters, which means that puts him on a super fighter level.

A film review show on the TV recently did a piece on the green hornet film. the leads from that film were described as not really being superheroes as all they had was a "jazzy car". using this logic batman isn't either.

to be a superhero you need super powers, not just some kick ass martial arts skills and a lot of expensive kit.

Depends on the Batman. Christopher Nolan's Batman is a vigilante. Frank Miller's Batman was a super-fucking-hero.

He's a superhero. You can argue the schematics of the term "super" all day long, but despite nominally being a normal human Batman still preforms both physically and mentally far beyond the capacities of any real-world individual. I mean, the guy dodged an Omega Beam for christ sakes, an ability which is supposed to be entirely un-dodgeable, super-powered or not.
