This was just a random thing that popped into my head.

Spoilers ahead
Assuming that the aliens in District 9 weren't slaves or whatever race they were from got pissed about what happened to them and wanted to retaliate or get vengeance they should have superior firepower/technology. [Img_Inline width="200" Caption="Remember the 'Man Exploding Gun'?" Align="right"]http://www.scifiguns.com/pictures/district_9_big_gun.jpg[/Img_Inline]So from what we have seen of Battle: Los Angeles, the aliens there have powerful weapons...much like the mech suit seen in D9. And given what Multinational United did to the 'prawns' whatever is invading would have a fairly genuine grievance as to why they would attack.

Just a random musing there.

Discussion value:
These alien invasion movies (not including District 9) like Battle: Los Angeles or Independence Day, are they made in a similar vain to zombie movies where everyone, so the characters and the audience, know exactly who the bad guy is and we can all kick collective butt and wave flags and live happily ever after?
Or is it purely for the money? And if it is that why does it make money? Or is it yet another reason?

One last thing:
A game you could play when seeing Battle: Los Angeles is to pretend that it is District 9 II

Yes most alien films are that black and white, aliens bad humans good. Keep in mind humans don't always win in the movies though.

I have nothing to say other than this:

It would be freaking AWESOME if this really was D9II.

From an action stand point anyway. Having a sequal like this kind of ruins D9's story driven plot, but hey, this is how I wanted D9 to end.

In vengeance.

No. District 9 actually had a point behind it.
This is just another generic Alien Invasion movie designed to keep their CGI design firm busy during the dead-months of cinema.

I read the title of this thread and took it to mean "District 9/11".

Images of a movie about aliens suicide bombing the world trade centre in retaliation to their shoddy treatment on Earth invaded my mind.

I am uncertain as to what the actual quality of the movie will be, but I do intend on seeing it. Big fan of the cast.

The PG-13 for this movie makes me cry...I'm still going to see it, but god damnit, why PG-13? I know it's too make money, but BLARGH.

Look at how well District 9 turned out due to not holding back? I am disappoint.

If it were to be a second District 9 I wouldn't see it, the first one did fairly well without having the need to have a squeal, it got the main story across in a two hour film.

Now, with Battle: Los Angeles, sure it's a generic film but you do have to admit, it's in an original location. Well, one that I know of, it has a pretty solid cast and a few unknown people which this film may give them a boost into their acting Career, and guess what else is in LA? Hollywood, which we all know has an almost absurd amount of snobs just begging to get exploded in an awesomely gory way. Hell, who knows? We could get a short shot of a Paris Hilton Generic getting blown up/crushed/disintegrated/etc. :)

Neither, I would choose Bad Taste it was directed by Peter Jackson and it's epicness is only equaled by its cheesiness. Check it out NAOW.

Battle: Los Angeles was actually based around an event that happened, albeit MAJORLY exaggerated.

Known "The Battle Of Los Angeles" it happened during WWII, specifically, 24th to 25th February 1942, shortly following the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the attack on coastal defenses by Japanese Submarines on 23rd February. Shortened version is, someone thought Los Angeles was being attacked by airplanes, possibly from Japan, and the 37th Coast Artillery Battalion opened fire above LA for an hour, resulting in three deaths from an artillery shell hitting a building and another three from heart attacks due to stress related to the shelling. It was determined later that there were no enemy planes spotted, and no cause for the shelling besides nerves being "heightened due to war time stress".

As for the movie, i thought it was crap in terms of story, but military buffs would like it, since it was made with the full cooperation of the United States Marine Corps.

District 9 was a fantastic story and inventive, but also a retelling of another event, or more accurately, a place, specifically District 6, which was a "whites only" area of Johannesburg during the apartheid regime of the 60's, which resulted in the forced removal of some 60,000 inhabitants.

Eitherway, i thought the technology shown in Battle: Los Angeles was interesting, but i dont think it really had much to do with District 9 at all, i felt like it was just a shock and awe movie that was only really made to showcase some CGI work that could be done. Being a militaria buff, i found it interesting, but storywise ive been more entertained by talk shows.
