Battlefield 3 Open Beta Begins With Advice from DICE

Completely unreasonable and nitpicky:
I would like to know how one "negatively effects" something. I was trying to think of a witty way to actually interpret that, but it's such a weird combination of words that I really can't think of anything.

well The PS3 version sucks, really the map felt empty... in a full game, it's still loading after the 10 minutes it took for me to exit the match, turn on my computer, load up the escapist and type this. I'll be getting MW2's $60 expansion pack before this, because no game in history has disappointed me more than this beta has.

Another tip, get a PP2000 as recon, run to the enemie spawn (don't arm the bombs) and put a mobile spawn next to the enemie spawn, your squad will spawn trap your enemies and you can run around planting.

I was able to plant every single M COM station in one game.

Keyword is beta. Also, keep in mind you are talking about a beta running on servers in no way meant to take the player load they are likely seeing right now. Honestly I think the "beta" is actually more of a public alpha release judging by the content and comparing it to the alpha videos on YouTube.

However, if you choose to be that petty, that is your choice. Enjoy Call of Repitition and the inevitable zombie packs.

Just once, I want a game to portray realistic shotguns. You know, guns that don't lose their effective range after ten feet? The ones that can kill at up to 100 feet?

Realism does not equal fun.

You know a game that portrayed the most realistic shotgun? Modern Warfare 2 Spas.

That also happened to be one of the most overpowered game in a thing filled with overpoweredness.

Realistic shotgun ranges do not translate well in videogames.

True, but usually shotguns are SO underpowered that they are only really a joke. A LITTLE stonger couldn't hurt.

until it shows me unedited single player footage that reminds me of Bad Company 1's stellar multiplayer I'll lean to Modern Warfare, and until Modern Warfare stops being bad I'm going to skip the shooters for this year and get Ace Combat: Assault Horizon on the 14th

But tell me DICE, how do I actually get the squad I'm in before joining ON THE SAME TEAM AS ME?! Or to actually put us in the same damn squad?

Multiple times me and my friends would squad up, search for a game, and we'd never all be in the same squad. Hell, some(me) even got put on the damn opposing team.

Yeah, this seems to be missing from game for the moment, hoping it's just a beta issue though (most likely is until they work out the kinks, or maybe they just want people to get used to being in a squad).

OT: Loving it so far. Yeah, there are beta issues for sure, but nothing major that can't be fixed (especially considering we're likely working with an earlier build in open beta than those in closed beta) before launch. The important thing is that the game feels pretty goddamn amazing and that's coming from someone who really loves vehicle gameplay that we didn't even get our hands on yet.

Wishing for a better interface though. I've got to admit, the whole "launch the game from a browser" doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would (the game starts up real fast and it's no issue whatsoever, plus you can browse around while you get in and the map fully loads), but the whole deploy thing felt a lot better in BFBC2 where everything was in one place. Now it takes way too long to customize a setup if you wanna change something about it. That said, I have only played the game today, it might be something I end up getting used to, but it just doesn't feel like an improvement.

I rushed to my comp to play this game and right now I'm massively disappointed, the game has a LOT of fixing needed and only a few weeks till release I get that this is a beta but the Gears 3 and halo reach betas happen much farther away from retail and were much better, BF3 is a mess balance is non existent, spawn camping is rampant, metro is terrible map, glitches are everywhere, and the web based server browser is AWFUL (but that's more of a bad design choice) I started out thinking I would do nothing else until the 10th but after only a few games (most of which were ended bay crashes) I'm ready to go play RE4 HD

TL,DR:the beta didnt live up to my expectations and now I feel the need to rant

Wow, I dunno about you lot but so far I've had a blast. The new Server browser form actually gets me into games quicker than Bad company 2 ever did, It looks great and runs better than I thought it would (ATI 6870) And it plays well.

CoD can suck it thats all I can say really. Though one of my friends who had an entry level PC said it was too laggy and ironically/unironically (which ever way you see it) started plaing MW2...

I'll be downloading tonight when I get the kids to bed to give it try out. I played a little bit of Red Orchestra 2 last night at a mate's place. I really liked the suppression system, it works well and made the game really tense. Especially with the one hit kills. While I don't expect BF3 to be as oppressive feeling or as detailed as Red Orchestra I do think it may be a little more (dare I say it) fun.
