Er what? There is no requirement of an internet connection to play offline. Steam can run in an 'offline' mode that will let you continue playing your games, just needa download them via online, once and only once. Then you're good to go. Just have to have a connection for online games. Not to mention the steam community/friend system is neat and easy to keep track of. And I find the browser kinda nifty, even if slow. A simple shift-tab in-game and that's all. Don't have to keep downsizing(Which can cause alittle issues with textures and crap.)Abedeus, you've been here over a year now, and not once have you run into me spouting off a tirade on why I hate Steam? Shit dude, I do that almost once a month here.
Long-story short, I don't like launcher apps, I don't like their requirement of an online connection for offline play, and I don't like digital-only purchases. And to take a game like FEAR2, which I purchased off a shelf at my local Future Shop, and then tell me I still have to use Steam, pisses me off more than a red-headed stepchild.
The program probably dosen't allow to make one activation valid for ever.Caliostro said:I don't see the point of a 3 decade "limit" to be honest... What's the difference for them between 30 years and lifetime? But hey, seems reasonable enough.
Strange, because I can tell you right now that I see a "Go offline" mode... You don't have to be online, unless you want Steam cloud. But that's Source/Valve games only.Khell_Sennet said:Abedeus, you've been here over a year now, and not once have you run into me spouting off a tirade on why I hate Steam? Better than XFire.Khell_Sennet said:no mandatory Steam

...Sounds like an issue on your side, then?Khell_Sennet said:For my roommate last night, he couldn't play his games. First, our net was down. Then, when our net came back, Steam went down for server work. True story, and couldn't have come at a better time to illustrate my point. The same game, Tropico 3, I bought retail and he bought through Steam. I could play it, he could not. Offline Mode did not work for it, even though the game is entirely single-player and does not itself need any internet connection. So his great and wonderful Steam prevented him from gaming the whole night, while I got to sit there smugly pointing out that I could (and did) play.Abedeus said:Strange, because I can tell you right now that I see a "Go offline" mode... One point for retail, for working when our own net was down. A further point for retail for working when Steam was down.
Retail 2 : Steam 0
Why do red-headed stepchilds piss you off?Abedeus, you've been here over a year now, and not once have you run into me spouting off a tirade on why I hate Steam? Shit dude, I do that almost once a month here.
