This isn't developed by DICE, it's Visceral Games, known for Dead Space and The Godfather. It's also probably been in development long before BF4s launch, which means they're not just gonna throw away a game they've been working on in order to fix bugs for another developer.
Call me a conspiracy nut (be cause I am), but I think this is a project Visceral were working on anyway that EA have re-branded to Battlefield because it's instant familiarity to the unwashed masses.

Like how they started renaming everything Bioware a few years ago, but with games now.

If I was really going off the deep end, I'd hazard a guess that EA handed Visceral Medal of Honor 3 at some point late in Warfighter's development (since they must have known Warfighter was awful in advance and Danger Close would not make the next one), then when Warfighter tanked they decided to keep Visceral making the game but rebrand it at a later date.

Since Battlefield is the only truly successful FPS series they have right now, Battlefield it is.

Ok it is nice to FINALLY see something original come out of the Battlefield franchise, but I have one problem with it. The whole police theme does not really fit with the Battlefield franchise? Battlefield(as you can tell by the name) is all about warfare of some sort. To just slap a police skin over it wouldn't make the police theme truly fit. So, why even have it be a Battlefield game? Why not just build the game mechanics around the police theme and create a possible new franchise?

Probably because Battlefield is already an established franchise. So it's much easier for them to to slap the Battlefield name on it, rather than market a new IP.

But they would still have to market the police theme for the game. Not only to new buyers, but also to Battlefield players that like the military theme. Making a new IP means that they can target the audience that wants a police shooter, rather then trying to get another audience to buy into this one. Although, this is EA we are talking about here.

They...they turned Visceral into a Battlefield making machine! *cries*

There's absolutely no way that I'm going to buy this game that's not even made by DICE. Yeah, they fucked up with BF4 but their previous games weren't broken so yeah.

Feels to me like EA wants to follow in Activision's footsteps and have 2(or probably more in the future) studios working on yearly CoD and BF games.

I'm still on the fence if I should bother with the new CoD..depends what I see of it and that it's made by someone new I might give it a chance..haven't decided yet.

Hold on! It took me a minute...Visceral are the guys that made Dead Space, and then fell in love with their own notoriety and made Kratos' Inferno ahem...I mean "Dante's Inferno" and the increasingly cheapened Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3! I'll pass on this. I'm not a fan of the studio. Especially when EA is cracking the whip and throwing them another studio's IP. How did Arkham Origins turn out when Rocksteady wasn't at the wheel?

Now EA's ripping off Payday and slapping the Battlefield name all over it?. Stay classy EA.
Because Payday is the only cops 'n' robbers game that's allowed to exist, right? ¬_¬
No, but there's a reason Payday comes to mind as opposed to say any other game featuring cops n' robbers that I can't think of, because Payday is the one that stands out most. I mean shit! the four classes will be (Operator, Mechanic, Enforcer, Professional). Is it that much of a stretch?

Battlefield v Payday

Operator: Mastermind
Mechanic: Technician
Enforcer: Enforcer (they didn't even bother being coy about this one)
Professional: Ghost

I play battlefield 4 on PS4 every day it isn't that buggy that is totally exaggerated, it is definitely in a playable condition at this stage and has been for several months. There is a bug where the one player campaign won't save which does annoy me because I need to do all that to get multiplayer guns. This would be a big problem if you only wanted the campaign but I imagine that describes very few people. Other than that everything else is manageable.

OP: This on the surface at least, sounds like it would have much less to offer than BF4. I would be interested in this as BF4 add on. I would need convincing of it having substantial content to buy this.
play it on pc. thats were pretty much most of the complaints are. its so bad that its unplayable. thats why i gave up entirely on this game. sure wasted my money on this crap.
but at least i have titanfall. this works flawlessly.
Not a PC gamer so I wasn't aware of this. I assumed if they were patching the console versions they would be doing the same for PC ! I suppose it comes down to what you consider unplayable as well. On console there are still issues which I can get by but some people can't. Random killed in action when you are in a jet is fucking annoying. Also being shot when you are clearly around that corner ! The campaign not saving annoys me most I mean you would think they could at least fix that as it is a huge glaring issue.
they did patch the pc version several times, but practically every patch they have released, made the game even worse. im dead before i come around the corner, shots go through cover or even buildings, rubber banding, constant freezing. even some crashes or drop back to win. if thats not a reason to delete this crap and never play it again, then i dont know what else can.

Though, is it too late to make a new IP instead of attaching the Battlefield title to it?
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It is sort of odd to set a Battlefield game on something that isn't a war torn battlefield.

Still, the idea is intriguing enough. Let's just hope they actually execute on it well rather than releasing a buggy mess.
Did anyone else get a Battlefield: Payday vibe when reading the article?
I got more of a Battlefield: Tactical Intervention vibe, but yeah, it must be around that way.

Having seen the reveal trailer for Hardline.......the game looks interesting, but it should NOT be a Battlefield game. It has nothing in common with Battlefield except for the engine. There are going to be hundreds if not thousands of people who pick it up and are going to be disappointed because its not really "Battlefield" in any sense of the word.

They should just remove "Battlefield" from the title, divorce it completely from anything having to with Battlefield (except for the engine) and make it its own separate series; that way they're free to make the game completely how they want with no prior expectations or pre-formed ideas from being attached to Battlefield. And that if the game flops, it won't hurt Battlefield.

But, but, but...if they did that, how would the cash-in on the brand recognition that is the Battlefield name?

I don't know how you go from "I want to make a game about cops n' robbers" to "you know what's the first thing that I think of when I think 'cops n robbers?'" Pauses for effect...[Everyone in the room] "Battlefield!" And then they all began high fiving because being on the same page confirmed that it was clearly a good idea.

Why are we stopping here though? Why not "Dead Space: Hard Justice?" A cops and robbers game set in the dead space universe. Or "Mass Effect: Personal Affects." A cops n' robbers game set in the Mass Effect Universe. Or "Command & Conquer: Miranda Rights." Why bother creating and marketing a new IP, when you can simply throw the name of an established IP on there and have most of the work done right out the gate?

I know that when playing Battlefield 2 on Sharqi Pennisula, I couldn't shake this feeling of "I wonder what the local law enforcement, and criminal element get up to around here."

That is a real shame friend because I honestly think it is the best FPS around and the most fun to play (when working!) especially in a good squad with friends. EA have a bad habit of forgetting what they owe you after they take your money which will one day bite them hard in future game sales. Low customer confidence !
i know, because the beta version of the game worked flawlessly. besides that enemies spawned right behind you after you spawned, i had no major complaints but the final version, thats just unacceptable. this bad netcode even effected Bf3 as well. yes, even BF3 is unplayable. for me at least. lots of stuttering and lagging which i never had before but appeared after Bf4 came out.

Ohhhh god, here we go again. I'm looking forward to the same caliber of hilarity to ensue as there was for Battlefield 4. Remember how they responded to complaints from the beta testers by essentially saying "Everything you guys are saying is bullshit. Our game is perfect."
