[HEADING=3]The previous day...[/HEADING]
"Oh, this is not going well," Caleb muttered as he stood in a small clearing quite a ways from the lake. He was somewhere between Lake Lapis and Route 3, that much he was certain. By the looks of things, it was growing more likely that it would've been much faster and easier if he had doubled back and went up Route 3's trail instead of trying to navigate the space between. After much more trekking, Caleb finally came across a less sheer part of the cliffs that hasn't appeared too difficult to ascend. "Up we go then," he muttered as he began to climb. Foot by foot, slow but sure progress was made, though not without wiping sweat from his brows and palms frequently along the way.
Caleb's headway was suddenly and surprisingly halted when he attempted to clamber onto an admittedly odd looking rock. With a gruff, "Geodude," the stone shifted and rose, sending Caleb toppling back. He tumbled down the rocky slope, fortunately landing on his backpack throughout most of the fall. All the while, the Geodude just watched before settling back into its small crevice.
"Oof!" Caleb landed on his stomach in the packed dirt at the base of the cliff, knocking the wind out of him. Spike, who had been holding onto the large pack just a moment before, came to a rest just a foot shy of the boy, hitting the dirt with a small grunt. For about a minute the pair just lied still, recuperating until the trainer spoke up again, almost wheezing. "Okay. New plan. We make camp here then just follow the trail onward from the lake. Sound good?"
The Elekid let out an exasperated sigh of agreement. And so, after securing themselves a level patch of grass, they set up for the night.

"Elekid?"
"No, we've just got a little further to go. I'm sure the others haven't moved too far ahead. Don't wanna be alone for long, especially if there'll be more of those 'Equinox' goons in this region," Caleb said, partly for his own assurance. Maybe they've already forgotten about you, the self conscious part of him thought. You haven't even met most of them.
Trying to put those thoughts away, the trainer began to consider his first course of action once he arrived at the town. He figured he would make a trip to the Pokémon Center so he could get his team at maximum efficiency. After some time walking and wondering, he found he was already entering Kalita City. The sight wasn't as wondrous as his first arrival into the region, but it was much more welcoming than a makeshift camp in the wilderness. With a more brisk pace, Caleb strolled into the Center and went up to the front counter to take care of his first order of business.
