"Hmm, if I were to go missing in the woods, where would I disappear to first...?" Morgan pondered, stroking his chin as he surveyed the surrounding flora and fauna. Spike sniffed around, yapping and scratching at a tree. "Yen! Cheeyen!" He barked, seemingly barking up the wrong tree. "Hey, I don't think she'd be up there, boy." He began leading the puppy away from the massive plant, taking a confused look up into its canopy before moving on. Further into the forest, he approached the familiar make and model of a Ranger. She looked about as intrigued as he did, looking about the surroundings with a pad and pencil. She would check nearby tracks or other abnormalities, in hopes to find some sort of clue. Spike took the initiative as usual, running up to the girl to sniff at her feet. Morgan brought up the rear, using the pup as a segue for introductions.

"Hello." He began, putting on a stern face and important sounding tone. "Morgan Zakarias, Petty Officer 3rd Class, Royal Navy." He flashed the girl his i.d. card, in hopes to make his claim seem just a bit more truthful. "I've been sent to the Jade Forest by my commanding officers, to help with the investigation of the disappearance of the woman, Elise Monteiro. I knew of the local police and park staff investing in the search, but I didn't hear anything of the Pokémon Rangers getting involved. An expertise like yours will be greatly appreciated going forward." The two exchanged smiles as they shook hands.

"I wanted to ask if your could fill me in on anything, any leads you could've discovered, or any potential witnesses or suspects." He added. The Ranger flipped through her pad briefly before answering. "...Heh, I'm actually on the same train as you are, sailor. I've yet to come across anything. Anything I've found that could've lead to something potential always goes cold after a certain point. Whoever snatched this lady up really knew what they were doing." She replied with a bit of sheepish disappointment. "We're planning on combing through this forest over the course of the day. I'm sure you'll be doing the same." Morgan chuckled a bit in reply. "Yeah, something like that. But, thanks for all your help." He began off, leaving the girl to continue her search. "Dangit. That went nowhere." As he thought, he took notice of the chatters of surrounding trainers. Seemed like he was back at square one. Spike took a moment to clean himself. Sting chittered along with the ambiance of the forest. Morgan let out a bit of a sigh. "Maybe I should see if anyone else's had any luck..."

Considering how dirty Kalita City was, the Southern Coast of Gensia was a refreshing palette cleanser. The gentle breeze wafting inwards from the sea was both a reminder of home as well as an affirmation that Robyn was on her way forward in this new land. It also tickled the leaves of her partner as Nina started to squirm a bit as she felt the wind on her head.

"Pettttti. Petilillil!" Nina seemed to be enjoying the feeling, enough to get a bit of an energy rush.

"All right, all right, calm down girl," Robyn told her starter. "We'll find something to play with around here. Course we could just enjoy the ocean for a bit." She looked out over the waves lapping along the shoreline. "Eh, that's enough."

"Hey! You can't be here!" came a voice from below the short cliff that blocked off the beach from the path.

"What the..."

As Robyn peered down, there was an artist staring back at her. "You're blocking the view of the forest!" he complained.

"Why are you painting that while the ocean is right behind you? That's just a bunch of trees..."

"The trees don't move! The ocean does!" the would-be Picasso retorted.

"That's just stupid."

"You offend my honor as an artist! That's it!" the painter shouted as he produced a Pokeball. "Prepare for battle Madam! Come down here and face the music."

"You can't even keep your art styles straight," Robyn noted as she looked down at the small but steep cliff. I'm not going down there with this leg. "And you can come up here if you want to battle so bad. It's closer to your precious forest anyway."

"Very well!" The so-called artist quickly jumped up the ledge and stood off opposite the slanderer. "You will pay for your lack of respect for my vision of art! Smeargle! Defend my vision!"

The artist produced a Pokeball and sent out a dopey looking Pokemon that aped it's trainer's style. "Smear..." it announced with a lackluster tone.

"What the...OK fine, whatever." Robyn searched for an appropriate combatant for this...thing. Nina had a battle recently, so she wanted some other members to get some action. "Laila! Let's tear up the dance floor!"

Robyn sent out her newest member, the feather-sporting Torchic appearing in the grass next to the path. She looked a little dazed upon entry, but quickly found her bearings and looked back at her trainer. "Torchictor?"

"It's battle time, Laila. Time to kick whatever that thing's ass is!" It was tough not really knowing what this Smeargle was, or what moves it would have, but now was as good a time as any to get Laila some battle experience. "Start off with a Featherdance!"

"Tor!" Laila plucked her feather and started twirling about with it, tossing it in the air as the golden glow enveloped her and the artist's Smeargle.

"Such beauty...No!" The artist affirmed for himself as he tried to resist the lure of the dance. "No! Honor defending time! Smeargle! Use String Shot!"

Smeragle complied by shooting string out of the end of it's tail, similar to Caterpie back in the woods. Laila was coated in the stuff, but was able to shake it off.

"So it's a Bug-type, huh? Laila! Ember it!"

"Torchic! Chicchicchic!" Laila started spitting hot flames like the top Two Mile MCs back home. It connected, but didn't do as much damage to the Smeargle as Robyn had hoped. It wasn't panicking or on fire.

"Silly girl! Smeargle! Show off your Water Gun!"

"How is that thing..." As Robyn wondered aloud her question was answered. Smeargle's tail glowed blue as water instantly began gushing out of it, catching Laila flush in the face. She shook that off as easily as the String Shot though. "How is that thing able to do that? It's not Water...is it?"

"Foolish pleb," the artist stated. "Smeargle has the ability to learn any move imaginable with the power of Sketching! It can do anything my heart desires!"

"Oh yeah?" Robyn asked. "What else does it got then?"

"Ummmm," the artist was suddenly flustered. "Nothing as of yet. It's still young, it only knows those two moves."

"Well then that don't impress me much! Laila, Scratch it up!"

The Torchic jumped forward, jumping to catch the Smeargle in the face with it's talons. The weak defence of the normal type meant it wasn't as well equipped to deal with the harsh physical attack and it went flying back to it's trainer, unmoving on the ground. "Smear...."

"Hrmph. Return Smeargle." The artist was clearly displeased by this turn of events as he recalled his fellow artist. "I have one more for you! Gothita! Send this uncultured ruffian home crying!"

The new Pokemon on the field was a tiny purple person thing that was sitting there shaking back and forth, not looking away from the battle as it did so... It was creepy. "Gothita!"

"Lillll...." Nina didn't really want to look at it. It was like a corruption of what it stood for. Laila was slowly backing away from the disturbing little Pokemon.

"Ummm, OK. Gothita...right I know what that is, Psychic and Dark, that'll be easy..." Robyn reasoned as best she could. "OK then, Laila return!" The Torchic let out a sigh of relief as she was recalled to the ball. "I need someone who shows no fear! Sauza! Let's do this!"

Robyn chose the Pokemon who could show no fear since it's face couldn't move. The Metapod appeared on grass next to the dirt road, standing as resolute as ever. "Metapod."

"Really? You insult my painting styles and now you insult me with this opponent? You will pay! Gothita! Confusion!"

The little purple Pokemon obeyed, glowing blue as she tossed Sauza in the air and back down onto the ground. It appeared Sauza landed right side up those, so it would still be able to move.

"All right Sauza, Bug Bite! Put this away early!"

"Meta!" Sauza hopped towards her opponent, white triangles present under her eyes as she rushed towards and delivered a punishing strike to Gothita, one that clearly caused a great deal of damage. The artist's Pokemon teetered backwards and collapsed onto the ground, swirls in it's eyes as it was left unable to battle.

"What the? What is this treachery! Gothita! Are you all right?"

"[sub]Goth....goth...[/sub]" was the coughed-out reply.

"I guess you've won this round," the artist grudgingly admitted.

"Damn straight I did!" Robyn said, beaming as she came over to the artist's side to gloat. Sauza was silent on the matter though...and then glowing on the matter. Robyn was still more focused on the afterglow of the battle, as the Metapod's shell cracked open and flowing wings emerged out of the back. "Now you should totally be painting the ocean like a normal person!"

The new Pokemon emerged from the back of the shell, fluttering into the air with an ease that Robyn would have appreciated out of Natalie pre-Kalita. As Robyn continued to berate the artist, Sauza flew up behind her trainer wanting to know what to do. "Beeeeerrrrreeeee?"

The new call brought Robyn out of her taunting reverie as she turned around to see Sauza suddenly in her face. "Sauza? You evolved? And you can fly?"

"Reeereee!"

"WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU WHEN I WAS FIGHTING BARRET THEN!?!"

Sauza shuddered backwards at the sound of Robyn's yelling. "Reeeeee..."

Robyn put her hands up. "Sauza I'm joking! Seriously this is awesome! I'm so happy you evolved!"

This put Sauza back in high spirits following the win evolution. ""Reeeeeefreeeeeee!"

Robyn turned back to the artist. "I guess you were useful after all. Now, go back to painting, I'm heading to the forest."

"Fine!" the artist said as he picked himself up and put his Pokeballs away. "But I'm painting the forest! I will not be denied my passion!"

"Whatever. Later." Robyn motioned for Sauza to follow her as she went to catch up with everyone else at the edge of the Jade Forest.

"Matti..."

"Togeh?"

"Matti, let go of Jen or you don't get snacks." Alix's lightly worded threat earned a whine from the Togepi, but he did as he was told, allowing Jen to scuttle away to her Trainer's other side. She started picking at her feathers, settling them back into place. Meanwhile, Alix busied Matti with a cube of food from her pack before she brought Gideon out of his Ball a second time.

Alix promptly held up a Potion bottle. "Close your eyes and stay still a moment, Gideon." Once the Oshawott had complied, she applied the bottle's contents to the bruise on his side. The discoloured patch quickly faded, and Alix rewarded his patience with a morsel of his own. "Now, you understand why you needed that Potion, right? You lost your focus in the middle of a battle."

"Oshawo..." Gideon seemed dejected, scuffing the grass with one foot.

"It's okay, mate, you're still little. You'll get there. Tell you what, let's head to the forest and see if we can find a Bug-type or two to practice on, eh?" Both Gideon and Jen looked up, paying attention at the mention of either an easy fight or a tasty meal. Struggling a little due to needing to keep a hold on Matti, Alix eventually got to her feet with some nudging from her Pokémon.

"C'mon, team, let's go for a walk. The forest's this way." Alix spotted a familiar brown-skinned girl up ahead; Robyn was accompanied by a couple of her own Pokémon. Alix picked up the pace to catch up, eagerly followed by Gideon and Jen.

"Excellent, my good man. I just left their clearing moments before I happened across you and your fellows," Florian declared, pointing back to the gap in the trees before he led the way, closely followed by Russel. Through the gap from which he had emerged was a short path heading back to the forest's edge, but ultimately leading to the clearing Florian had mentioned...

"Eurgh. Ghastly business, that stench. They're here all right." The Elite Four member screwed up his nose. "My apologies, Mr. Manov, and no offence intended to your Gulpin there. I simply cannot stand being in close proximity to these creatures... still, one must get one's hands dirty every so often. Onward!" He pushed forward to properly investigate. Sure enough, a large group of Poison-types were hanging about, some of them oozing, climbing trees or wandering about. Several were fighting among themselves.

"Oh, the cads. They've even begun to disrupt the more nocturnally inclined species... strange that they're all so young. Maybe the older species are looking for their offspring," Florian mused. "Either way, they'll need to return to their homes. Usually, Poison-types reside on Route Nine, north of the forest. Unless you want to catch one for your team, of course."

The Poison-types were making a fair bit of noise, in addition to the smell. Odds were high that they would be heard outside of the clearing.

Some runaway Poison-type Pok&#233mon are stirring up trouble in Jade Forest. Help Florian to drive them out, and maybe he'll give you something in return.

Russel didn't mind the smell coming from the poison pokemon, looking at them going about. "Strange that there are so many. Got any idea at all what might be messing with them?" He would give him a moment to respond, but quickly reached for a pokeball. "Think I know how to start dealing with this." The ball opened and Rory emerged, head down and a bubble nears its nose.

"Oh come on! We've barely been up an hour!" He shouted, making the Ralts jump, looking back and forth. Ral! Ralts! "Come on, Rory. Time for some target practice!" he shouted, pointing to a nearby Trubbish. Without skipping a beat, Rory reached out and used Confussion to push it away, making it run off. "Ok, good job. Now try another!"

Rory nodded, doing the same to a wandering Koffing. "I get the feeling we're just moving the problem elsewhere, not actually solving it..."

As Robyn stood at the entrance to the Jade Forest, her reasonings for attacking the atrtist for ignoring the ocean in favor of this darkened woods seemed to be justified. It was nowhere near as inviting as the woods outside of Aquamar. "All right girls, we'll be ready for this. We can handle it, right?"

"Lillil...Peti...." Nina definitely wasn't so sure of that, her leaves shaking against her trainer's body.

"Reeeefreeeee." Sauza appeared to be shrinking back as well.

"Come on! You can fly now, Sauza! Don't be scared of that forest!" As she looked back to tell Sauza while looking her in those big red eyes, she saw Alix coming into view along the path. She gave a wave as the white girl came closer.

Alix returned the wave, as did the ever-excitable Matti, though Jen hopped ahead in hopes of meeting up with her sister. Upon finding out that her fellow Fire-type wasn't out and about, the Torchic gave a disappointed chirp and retreated.

"Hey, Robyn... I see Sauza's broken out of her shell," Alix noted with a light laugh. "You got some training done, then?"

"Yeah, I did," Robyn said laughing. "Didn't mean to, but um, yeah Sauza totally kicked ass. One hit KO. It was awesome."

""Reereeeee!"

She spotted the sad looking Torchic at Alix's feet, and thought she looked like she needed cheering up. "Laila did really good too, she got a battle in against this weird looking painter thing. I should let her say hi to her sis, huh?"

She reached into her pocket, pulling out Laila's Pokeball and released the Fire-type onto the ground. "Tor...Torchic! She spotted Jen almost instantly and ran over.

"Tor!" Jen perked up immediately, settled in close beside Laila and closed her eyes as if she was about to go to sleep.

"Aww, look at you. But you can't nap now, it's the middle of the day." Alix bent down and ruffled Jen's feather-crest, earning another chirp in response. "Jen got a match of her own as well. She took on a Beldum single-handed, with a bit of guidance from me," she explained, straightening up. "So, are we heading into the forest then? Any idea of what we might find?"

As she spoke, a hint of a foul scent reached Alix's nose, carried on the breeze. Probably a Poison-type of some kind.

"I have no idea," Robyn answered as she looked into the forest. "But Nina didn't seem to like it." Then the smell hit her nose. "Ugh! Is that why? Oh my god! Are they running sewer lines though that place?!? That's disgusting!" She pulled her hoodie up over her mouth and nose to try and block the stench.

Alix covered her own nose and mouth, while Matti whined and wriggled in her arm in attempts to find some cleaner air. "Eurgh... whatever it is, it's got to go. That is not pretty. Maybe we should find a Ranger, someone who might be able to shed some light on it."

Nina buried her face in Robyn's shirt trying to avoid the smell, cries muffled by the heavier fabric. "Do you think there's someone around?" Robyn asked as she dug through the pockets looking for her team's Pokeballs. She wasn't going to subject them to this torture. Sauza, Laila and even Nina got the return treatment as she focused on protecting her own nose once they were safely returned. "They have to know about this right? There might be someone in the forest, I guess..."

"Here's hoping you're right... uh-oh." Matti's wriggling turned into full-blown flailing, a sure sign that the baby Pokémon was about to start another tantrum. Jen and Gideon both looked up, concerned both for their teammate and themselves.

"Matti, sweetie..." But there was no appeasing the Togepi. "Waaaah!" Alix tried hushing him up, tentatively placing a finger near his mouth... "Ow! He bit me!" She promptly yanked Matti's Ball from her satchel and recalled him, quickly doing the same for Gideon and Jen.

"He's going to be a joy to deal with later. Adorable, but a menace when he's worked up." Alix sighed, taking note of the tiny baby teeth marks in her finger. "Well, at least there's no blood. Let's go."

"Yeah, the quicker we get through this forest the better..." Robyn agreed as the two headed into the gross green gathering of trees.

As Heidi made her way through the forest, she felt an awful stench reach her nose. She held it to keep the stench out, but she could still hear the noise that was coming from close by. She went to where the noise came from in order to investigate, and found a lot of Poison type Pokémon there. Luckily, she had just the Pokémon to take them on, but Laura would still need help with them. Heidi returned Daniel and Lewis to their Pokéballs before turning her attention to Laura, George and Eve.

"Alright, let's get some more training done, and hopefully make these Poison types make less noise! Eve, use Gust on anything weak to it! Laura, use Mud Slap on anything weak to that as well! George, help them out however you can!" All three of them nodded before finding opponents to fight. Laura started Mud Slapping some Stunkies who weren't able to hit her much at all thanks to the mud in their eyes. Eve wasn't very fast, but George helped her by distracting any opponents she faced before she used Gust, and if that wasn't enough, George finished them off with a Quick Attack before they could retaliate. Yani still stayed on top of Heidi's head, resting there.

The forest was providing excellent experience for Brandon's Pokemon, with all of them participating in numerous battles with the Grass-type Pokemon that filled the forest. After a number of battles, Norma and Perry were exhausted due to the type advantage their opponents had. They were told to stay back while Grey finished cleaning out the area, leaving the two tired Pokemon to explore the area for more Pokemon for Grey to battle.

The two young Pokemon ventured a short distance away from their Trainer, doing their best to stay within a safe distance in case they ran into a strong Pokemon. Norma and Perry were going to head further into the forest, but a terrible stench drove them back. The two had a slight pause as the two rested after the hustle away from whatever was causing the horrible smell, enjoying the fresher air that permeated the forest. A minute into the rest there was a wafting new scent of flowers about them, enticing the two Pokemon to find out where it originated from.

Following the scent, the two were led to a small meadow in the forest. Norma was about to run in and investigate, but Perry stopped her and pointed out a giant bulb that was moving in the meadow. Upon further inspection, that bulb turned out to be a Bulbasaur who seemed to be tending to the flowers.

Excited with their find, they ran back to where Brandon and Grey were, and after getting their attention the four made their way back to the meadow. "Nice job you two. A Bulbasaur is a tough Pokemon, and would actually be a pretty good addition to the crew. Gotta be careful though since it probably knows a number of powder moves. Be careful Gr-," Brandon began as he scoped out the area from behind a tree with his Pokemon, halting when he realized Grey was already in front of the Bulbasaur.

While initially startled, the Bulbasaur seemed happy to see another Pokemon. After making some quick Pokechat with the Croagunk, the Bulbasaur used his vines to pluck one of the flowers that he had been tending and handed it to Grey. The Croagunk took the flower and stared at it for a moment, looking up at the expectant Bulbasaur before taking a bite out of the flower. The Bulbasaur looked shocked at what she did, though he quickly grew angry when she spat it out into the meadow.

Bulba! Bulbasaur! he yelled, growing angrier by the second as Grey threw what was left of the flower into the dirt. With another angry cry he lunged at her, though was blindsided with a quick poison sting attack after she dodged. Brandon called out quickly to use Astonish before the Bulbasaur could recover, with Grey following the command by scaring the Bulbasaur as he whipped around to attack once more.

The Bulbasaur flinched from the move, allowing Grey to attack once more. This time she used Pursuit, daftly hitting the stunned Pokemon who was knocked back into a tree. The weakened Pokemon went to get up before getting knocked down with another Pursuit attack. Grey was about to continue the fight with another attack before Brandon tossed a Pokeball at the Bulbasaur. She stared as the ball shook a few times before beeping to show a successful capture.

"No need to keep beating it up if it was already down. It was a good thing you taunted it beforehand, otherwise it could have used SleepPowder or something on you," Brandon told Grey as he knelt down to pick up the Pokeball, not seeing Grey?s confusion at the taunt comment. "Well, looks like we got a new member. You two find anything else interesting?" he asked Norma and Perry, who both looked at each other with grossed out looks as they remembered the terrible smell. After the two confirmed they had something else to show him, the four left the small meadow as two of them led the way towards the unappealing smells from earlier.

"I get the feeling we're just moving the problem elsewhere, not actually solving it..."

"We need to drive the group as a whole further north, instead of just 'away'," Florian noted. "Perhaps I should find faster ways to recruit others to this cause. I know just the Pokémon for the job." Drawing two Poké Balls from an inside pocket of his jacket, a pair of large brown-and-green Pokémon appeared in the clearing. Extensive leaves unfolded, and the two Tropius began to flap them as if they were wings. A curious Weedle scuttled closer and one of the Grass/Flying species pushed it back with a single gust of wind.

"Tropius, be a colossal help - ha! - and see if you can gather some people to assist us. There must be some Rangers or other travelling Trainers in or near the woods," Florian instructed his Pokémon. They quite happily obliged, taking to the air quickly despite their bulk.

Meanwhile, Florian released a third Pokémon, a shorter Grass-type with a large crown-like flower atop its head. "Lilligant, my dear, would you mind freshening the air in these parts? It's decidedly unpleasant."

"Lilil!" A cloud of multicoloured perfume burst from the Lilligant's crown-flower.

[hr]

The foul smell in the air seemed to linger as Alix and Robyn progressed into the forest. Alix kept a handful of fabric clamped over her nose and mouth in attempts to stave off the stench, to little avail. She kept an eye out for any sign of human activity nearby, but didn't find much. But there had to be someone who could tell them what was going on.

All of a sudden, the thin sunlight that reached the forest floor was blocked out by something above, accompanied by the fast beating of wings. Alix looked around for the source, soon finding a large Pokémon in the air above the two Trainers. She recognised it as a Tropius, a native to the dense woodlands of Hoenn's north. It seemed to be using its long neck to point down at her and Robyn, then back the way they came. The Tropius repeated this gesture a few times.

"I think it wants us to go that way... back near the edge of the forest," she mused, indicating the flying Pokémon to her companion.

Robyn looked at the giant Grass type wearily. I didn't think Grass types could get that big... Alix seemed rather nonplussed by it though, and it seemed to be offering directions. "Well, if you're game, I'm game."

"Alright..." Alix looked back the way the Tropius was pointing. The Grass/Flying Pokémon sailed over the girls' heads and paused to point straight down before it flew away. "That seems to be where it wants us to go." Alix led the way, taking a path that had several different footprints in the dirt. The stench they'd noticed earlier seemed to strengthen here... she didn't trust herself to open her mouth. But she pushed forward on the path, finding herself in a clearing where Russel, Heidi, and a green-clad stranger stood. The latter had some sort of Grass-type Pokémon with him, and both were taking in the scent of a cloud of mist in the air. Alix pulled out her Pokédex.

So that was what Nina would eventually look like? Alix approved. Though she wondered who the stranger was. Was he the one who had sent the Tropius?

It was tough for Robyn to keep her eyes open at this point. The smell was so overpowering, even reaching through her makeshift hoodie gas mask. Why did I agree to this again? Finally they reached a clearing, where... Russel! The guy from the Gym! He was there. She couldn't recognize the other two people at first though.

"Who's that?" she asked Alix, as if she might know.

Upon seeing the new arrivals, Florian waved them over. He seemed rather unfazed by the smells emanating from the Poison Pokémon in the area, probably due to that mist cloud... Alix took a moment to take in the scene as a whole. Russel and that other girl, Heidi, were battling some of the Poison-types, while the stranger stood back and let them do all the work. She approached the tall man, who offered a handshake which Alix accepted.

"I am Florian Ilex, of the Gensia Elite Four. You may have seen one of the Tropius I sent to find more people to help. Are these friends of yours?" Florian asked, indicating Russel and Heidi. Alix let go of the thin fabric of her jacket before answering, taking in the fresh scent of the Lilligant's perfume. "Yeah, we've been travelling together, more or less, since yesterday. What's going on here? That smell is spreading throughout the forest."

"As you can see, these young Poison-types are running rampant here without their older kindred to take charge of them. We've tried moving them out of the area, but we don't seem to have the numbers. Perhaps you fine ladies could lend a hand?"

Robyn looked at the area and finally let her shirt fall down, able to breathe again now the Sweet Scent was filling the clearing. "Um, Poison types? I may have one Pokémon who can take them on, but she's green and not really used to the area. And cringed when she first smelled the place."

Alix briefly considered which of her own team would be best suited to the task. Matti had Extrasensory, but he would probably only wail even louder with all the Poison-types in the area. And it sounded like Florian didn't want to knock out the wild Pokémon, just drive them back to wherever they came from. Ludevic was a Psychic-type... but didn't know any properly Psychic moves. Gideon was probably the best choice here. Jen was younger and needed the battling experience, but she also had the potential to start a forest fire.

"If we're just shepherding them out of the forest, I think I can help there," she eventually answered. "Not the most effective way of dealing with Poison-types, but Gideon here could probably send a decent message." Alix dug the appropriate Poké Ball out of her satchel, releasing her Oshawott within the perfume cloud.

Florian smiled down at the small Pokémon. "Excellent. Well, don't just stand there as if you were about to sprout roots! Off you go, ladies!"

"Well...uh...huh." Morgan's lackluster meandering came to a brief halt, as a horrid stench filled the air. Nothing to really reel back in disgust over, but...it was something. "Ugh, S'Like a Victreebel threw up its lunch and group of Grimer tried to run a train on the puke...and then they started throwing up..." Spike seemed more distressed than his hardened trainer, whimpering as he used his front paws to cover his snout. Taking notice of his stunned state, Morgan knelt to Pokémon's aid. "I guess this smell would be a little strong for your sensitive nose, huh boy?" With a reassuring pat, the sailor returned the Poochyena to it's Poké Ball.

"Now, where could this stench be coming from...?" He felt like he might've found something resembling an answer to his question, as a closely knit group of sludge balls trawled into his vision. One got pretty close to running over his sneakers. "Oh geez, don't tell me there was an actual Grimer orgy..." Now that he mentioned it, there was a weird influx of Pokémon wandering through the forest.

"Did I miss something...?" As he wandered into a clearing, he could spot a tall fellow adorned in verdant hues, commanding a Pokémon to do his evil bidding. "That guy looks important...is he the one releasing that nasty-ass stench-okay, nope, he's not, it smells way better over here." Looked like Alix and Robyn were there as well.

"Off you go, ladies!" He walked over to the two right as the guy said that. Seemed the pleasant smell intensified into a small smelly smog as he addressed the girls. "Okay, what'd you two do this time?" He accused in jest, complete with a raised eyebrow and hands on hips. It was glaringly clear he was being playful, but he waited on baited breath to see if Robyn would get angry about it, like she usually did.

Russel had been wandering around, letting Richard and Rory train together by fighting the poison types, with Munchie giving them support. The Gulpin had gone back to get a berry to help the newly-hatched Munchlax when suddenly something swooped by and snatched it out of Munchie's hands. GUL?! the little blob started darting his eyes back and forth, trying to find the their. Russel walked over, leaning down to check on his friend "Something wrong, Munchie?"

After a few moments of Munchie flailing his arms around, Russel got the point "We got a thief, huh? Well, we aren't just going to let that go, are we?" he got up, whistling to get Rory and Richard over to him. The quartet started looking around the bushes, until they came across a half-eaten Oran Berry. "Well... we found the loot. But where's the thi-..." his thoughts were cut off as he felt a jolt on the back of his leg "GAH!" something had crawled up and scurried into his backpack. Russel tried to get the backpack off to catch it, but as soon as he opened it the Pokemon darted off. "Speedy little jerk, ain'tcha?" he shouted, turning to Rory. "Use Confusion!"

The Ralts nodded, reaching out with its hands and stopping the scurrying bug in its tracks. Getting a good look at it, they realized it was a purple and green bug with a bulgy body and antenna. Russel pulled out his Pokedex to get a better read on it.

"Never seen one of those before..." Russel said, impressed at the little guy's speed. He reached for a Pokeball, ready to try and catch it. "Rory, bring it back here!"

The Ralts nodded, swinging its hands. However, the bug didn't budge, instead glowing a light blue. "What in the hell? That should have sent it flying!" Before he could react, the Venipede turned around, now dashing towards Rory and swiping it with its tail. Pede!

Rory was caught off guard, falling on its back, dazed and confused. "Rory! That's it, Munchie! Take him out!" Munchie nodded, yawning loudly at the enemy bug. The bug was confused, but curled up, rolling in place for a bit before going after the Gulpin. Munchie managed to hop out of the way, and the Venipede started looking around for its next target. Before it could find it, however, Richard dashed towards it, lowering his head. It glowed a blue similar to when Rory used Confusion and stuck the Venipede dead center... barely even making it flinch.

The Venipede looked confused, then saw Richard, realizing that had happened. He started laughing hysterically, falling onto its back and rolling around, PEeeeeehehehehehede! he couldn't believe a runt like that actually tried to hurt it. He laughed so hard he didn't notice how tired he was getting. Slowly, its eyes closed and it had fallen asleep.

"Well... that's one way to pass the time, I suppose." Russel said, trying not to laugh himself. He chucked the Pokeball at the Venipede, stuffing it into the ball. However, after a few shakes, the Venipede broke free, still asleep. "What the...?! Stubborn little guy as well, it seems." he said, deciding to take advantage of the situation. "Richard! Give it another Zen Headbutt!"

Muuuunch! the Munchlax grinned, ramming its noggin into the sleeping bug once again. The shaking was enough to wake it up, and it looked around confused. Ven? He saw Richard, starting to get up, and so he curled into a ball again, ready to try and roll the Munchlax over. "Uh oh... use another Zen Headbutt! Fast!"

Richard lowered his head, charging head-first at the rolling Venipede, colliding with it mid charge. The Venipede overtook him, but it wobbled after it pushed Richard aside, falling onto its side. Without another word, Russel chucked another ball at is, this time relieved to see that it stayed in. *CLICK*

"Well..." he said, walking over to the exhausted Munchlax and the still sleepy Ralts. "I guess we have a new friend. Promise me you two won't be mad at him once I let him out later." The two hesitated, but grudgingly nodded their heads.

Erika saw a Tropius flying through the air and recognized it from her home region of Hoenn. The Pokémon dissented over her, and looked at her before pointing its head in another direction, after the second time Erika asked it if it wanted her to go that way, and the Pokémon briefly nodded before flying off.

After a few minutes of following the direction it had indicated, after returning her team to improve time, a powerful stench flooded the area as she approached. The stench disappeared as she ran into a clearing with a few people from the original group that she started her journey with and a man in a forest green outfit. A Pokémon that Erika failed to recognize seemed to be covering the stench at the area that she had emerged.

Erika was going to ask what was going on, but quickly saw the Pokémon from several trainers trying to contain and push back several of the Position type Pokémon that had flooded the clearing. Putting two and two together in her head, Erika removed four of the balls off of her belt buckle and released them.

Burtha, Aerial, Maya, and Ygritte and quickly appeared before her and she began to give orders. ?Aerial use Gust and Maya use Air Cutter to drive the Beedrill that way,? Erika pointed as their indication, ?Maya mix in Confusion as well on some of the toad looking ground ones as well if the move in any direction but that one.? The two Flying type took off into the air and Erika looked at her two ground bound team members.

?Burtha use Mud-Slap that way to force them in so they can only either go towards us, or the direction Maya and Aerial are sending the Beedrills. Ygritte same thing but to the other side and use your Ember attack to help complete the trap. Both of you stay inside of this cloud or you?ll smell something extremely foul.? Both nodded and complied as they took their positions leaving Erika to feel bad as she forgot to give her fliers the warning and saw the stench over take them. She?d have to give them an extra treat latter to make up for it.

"Okay, what'd you two do this time?"

Robyn turned, indignant but emboldened as the noxious smell was cleanly erased from the area. Of course it was the sailor boy from before. The one who almost got Nina barbecued because he couldn't control his Pokemon. But as before, the Sweet Scent in the air was making her more relaxed, almost too relaxed to try and have her force anything with this guy.

"Unno," she answered, shrugging her shoulders. "I'm just here to start knocking out some of these stinkers." Robyn reached into her pocket, fumbling around for the right balls. She produced two. "All right team! Let's do this!"

Emerging from the balls were the returning Sauza, and the forest dwelling Scout. Sauza fluttered over by the Lilligant that was providing such an intoxicating aroma, but Robyn quickly put a stop to that. "Sauza, no! Later, maybe."

"Reeee...reereeeeee." She hovered back in place over the unmoved Scout, who remained at attention.

"All right you two. We're going to try and knock out some of the Pokemon that are causing this place to smell worse than that dance crew in the alley behind Mode Street. Look for Poison types and knock them out. Got it!"

"SEN! TRET!" Scout saluted as he led Sauza into the throes of battle, leaving the trainers standing there in the still sweet smells of the safe zone.

Robyn sighed as the two ran into the trees. "I know I should probably follow them and maybe catch something, but I really don't like Poison Pokemon. Just...no. I'm good without."

"I hear you there, miss," Florian quipped, lightly resting one hand on the Lilligant's shoulder as he looked out on the scene. "Say, it looks like there's a fair few of your fellow Trainers about. Either my Tropius did their work well, or the, ah... unpleasant, shall we say, scent on the wind is spreading further afield."

Alix wasn't listening. Instead she was crouched down beside Gideon, who was sitting in the grass with a dozy look on his face, most likely from the Sweet Scent produced by Florian's Pokémon. She lightly poked him. "Oi, mister. You can't be taking a break when there's work to do..."

"Osha." Gideon didn't budge. If anything, his eyes were drifting even further out of focus. Alix's eyebrows shot up. "Alright, suit yourself. Tough love time." She picked up the Water-type, who made no attempt to resist, and carried him outside the cloud of perfume. Gideon's lazy expression vanished almost instantly, replaced by him clutching his nose with one paw and mumbling in discontent.

"Are you awake now?" The question was answered by a groan and a short shake of the head to clear it. "Good. Now, let's see if you're tough enough to take on these Poison guys, yeah? We want to drive them out of the forest, that way." Alix set down her charge, who was not happy about it but willing to enter the fray all the same. It could have been worse, she figured. She could have picked Matti.

Gideon set off towards the nearest group of wild Pokémon, introducing himself with a Water Gun. A Weedle hit by the blast gave a wail of discontent and scuttled away... buzzing began to fill the air almost instantly. Gideon paid it no heed, instead turning the spray on a Grimer who rose up and made to punch the smaller Pokémon - only for its semi-liquid body to be pierced by a long white needle, which withdrew, leaving minimal external damage. The Grimer turned to face its new attacker and promptly oozed out of sight, afraid of the newcomer.

"Bzzzz!" Sure enough, a full-grown Beedrill stood there, having landed to face Gideon after the Water-type had attacked the Weedle.

"Oh geez. Gideon can't handle this one on his own." Alix ran forward to take proper command of the battle. "Gideon, Focus Energy!" The Water-type raised his scalchop and began to glow blue, but the Beedrill was already flitting to one side and jabbing with a needle. Gideon stumbled as the spike connected, and Alix could already see that he was going to be outmatched if this kept up. Still, she elected to keep trying. "Water Gun!"

Gideon's attack merely glanced off of the Beedrill's needles, which it had raised to defend itself. It swept them down in a cross pattern, and Gideon was knocked over. He struggled to his feet, but coughed up bubbles of some sort of purple stuff and flopped back down.

"Oh, crap!" Alix recalled Gideon back to his ball - she would treat the poison later - and tried to make a run for it back to the others. She didn't have anything that could take on a fully evolved Pokémon. The Beedrill pursued her with ease, joined by two others which shot from the trees to overtake her. Except one froze in midair, caught by a golden beam of light. Alix looked round to find the source: Florian's Lilligant. What the -? Is that an Extrasensory?

Stunned, the hit Beedrill spun in midair and buzzed back into the cover of the forest. The two others rounded on the Grass-type, which spun on the spot, bounced once, and fired a second attack, and a third. Both of the bee Pokémon flailed in midair and crashed to the ground unconscious. "Excellent, queenie. Well done." Florian's comments were directed at his combatant.

"Lililii!" Lilligant spun once more and bowed.

Several other Beedrill were now present, hovering nearby... but seeing what had happened to their fellows, they turned and sped north. Most of the other Poison-types in the area followed them; whether out of loyalty, fear or any number of other reasons was anyone's guess. Alix had no idea. She was just grateful for the intervention.

"Well, that ought to have driven them out. Had to find the source of the uprising... Beedrill are territorial, and incredibly aggressive when disturbed." Florian strode forward, examining patches of ground where some poison had leached from the Pokémon into the grass.

"No kidding. You don't see that kind of hostility back in Lavaridge..." Still clutching Gideon's Poké Ball, Alix began looking around in case they had just retreated to make another flank attack, like the first one had done with her Oshawott. She didn't see any black and yellow stripes, though: instead the forest was beginning to show signs of Grass-types again. A Shroomish hopped forward to investigate, followed by a few others: with the horde of Poison-types gone for the most part, the smell they had left behind lingered a little, but with far less strength.

Florian beckoned everyone forward to join him in the center of the clearing. "Your efforts here are greatly appreciated. Now, let me see about a reward..." He pulled a sleek-looking phone out of one pocket, tapped at it a few times and held it up to his ear. "Ah, Virgil, my good man... fine, capital. Yourself? ... Good to hear. Say, listen, can you do me a favour? You wouldn't happen to have anything prime for a band of more or less beginner Trainers? Oh, you do? ... Excellent! These young Trainers have given me a hand, and they deserve something for their trouble. I shall send them your way to collect their prize. Usual deal? ... Capital! See you later." He hung up and returned the phone to his pocket.

"Virgil's one of the Gym Leaders here, over in Sugille City on the other side of this forest. He also runs a not insubstantial Day Care and breeding program. I often send Trainers like yourselves his way to acquire rare finds, newly-hatched as part of his breeding efforts. Visit him there and I'm sure he can set you up with a new Pokémon for your team, pretty much anything you like." Rummaging through his pockets again, the Elite Four member pulled out a handful of business cards and passed one to each of the Trainers present.

"Just hand over that card at his Day Care in exchange for the Pokémon of your choice. And with that, our business here is concluded: I don't think there's anything more that desperately needs to be dealt with here. And besides, I'm sure you're eager to carry on with your journey... you'll be headed for Natree next, correct? Well, it's not far from here. That path will take you back to the main road through the woods, and then it shouldn't be more than half an hour's walk or so." He pointed to the eastern side of the clearing as he spoke. "My Pokémon and I look forward to facing you in battle, when you reach the Pokémon League HQ."

With that, he sketched a short bow to the group and wandered over to another poisoned patch of grass to examine it. Alix took a moment to examine the card: it was a simple business card detailing contact information for the Sugille Museum, Gym and Day Care Center, with a watermark of a green leaf beneath the writing. All three run by the same guy?

Meanwhile, a woman in black and gold got up from her perch above ground and lightly leaped away, flitting from branch to branch.

Most of the Poison Pok&#233mon previously encountered have fled the area, but some - with the exception of Beedrill - might still be present. The Pok&#233mon in the West Jade Forest listing should take priority, for those wishing to catch or battle further.
