Id rather people just voted with their wallets silently, than carried on like spoilt children having a tantrum.

"proud" to be a gamer? Proud to be associated with the mass of People who make xbox live rather "lively" to say it in a diplomatic way, who would turn forums into rather disagreeable places with constant whining?
Proud to be grouped with misogynistic, racist homophobic People?

Seems kinda hard to take pride in that but if you're able to do so, go right ahead.

(I'm looking at you, Sonic fanboys).
Hey now, don't lump all of us together. Even some of us think the rest of those guys are crazy.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I consider myself a Sonic fanboy, too --I love the little bastard-- but when I hear about certain fans throwing a shit fit about the colour of Sonic's eyes in a particular title, it just astounds me that anyone can care that much about something so trivial.
But... but... they're greeeeeeeeeeen!!!11!onetwoone!!

I couldn't agree more. What a lot of gamers really, really need to realise is that their opinion doesn't reflect that of everyone else and, even if it is in the majority, it still doesn't mean the developer should be at their beck and call to just do what the fans want, over and over.

I love the Ratchet & Clank series, they're probably my favourite games of all time --or at least the ones I've played the most-- and I got really pissed when Insomniac turned the franchise into a multiplayer focused affair. It felt completely unnecessary to me, but after a while I realised I still have all the old R&C's I love, so there's no reason to get my panties in a bunch because the new games aren't what I'd have preferred them to be.

I'd much rather developer's try new things from time to time --even if they fail miserably-- than just acquiesce to fan service. I know the word 'entitled' gets thrown around a lot and I think, when it comes to developers/publishers lying about what they are selling, people have a right to complain and make demands, but they have absolutely no right to tell those same companies what they've to do with their new projects, just because it's what they think they should be doing.
I am of two minds about how much weight developers should put behind the words of fans or customers.

On the one hand, constructive criticism can easily help you to create something even better than what made you such a hit to begin with.

On the other hand, constructive criticism rarely ever seems to originate from the gaming community. And when it does, it's not often phrased in a rational manner.

Not to harp on a single instance, but going back to DmC; How many people actually genuinely thought pre-boot Dante was a good character? Because he wasn't actually a character. He was a vessel. He was basically an anime stereotype of 'cool' all wrapped up into one being and then slapped into a Neo-Gothic setting. Everyone else in the DMC universe had more personality than Dante. Hell, the bosses you kill in DMC 3 that turn into talking swords had more personality than Dante.

I don't get this whole boycott thing. It's not a boycott if you just don't want it. If you want something, just bloody buy it. If companies keep screwing over their customers then of course they'll be in the shit. But not because of some stupid internet activism, it'll be because nobody will want their shitty products.

Well, yeah. On a site about games, people are more aware and vocal with measures that demean or outright damage them if accepted. What I'm worried about is the general audience that Doesn't visit sites like the Escapist being gullible enough to fall for something like the Xbone.

Or I would be, but...

The Mass Effect 3 Incident (Yeah, I call it that) was decried by Forbes. Forbes! As in the economy news group that publishes yearly "The richest people in the world" lists panned the way Bioware handled Mass Effect 3's writing, as a betrayal of it's Consumer base (Actually, I believe that's also the first time gamers everywhere were called Consumers instead of "FANZ" by anyone in public). People raised up a stink everywhere with the Hitman Nun trailers. The Xbone debacle was live on every X360 and it's being decried everywhere, facebook, 9gag, not just gaming sites.

At this rate, only "fanboys" (and I use the term loosely) who haven't been betrayed yet will buy it straight off the bat, and everyone else will make a learned decision instead about where to get their entertainment. This is fantastic!

You're right. To me, It's still a rage-inducing time to be a gamer due to the ever present greed the industry has fallen into, but we're consumers now! I thought we always had been but apparently someone needed reminding. At least 1 good thing out of all this.

Yay someone put my thoughts into writing, don't like the idea of something then don't buy it. If you buy something that is broken then you have a right to complain, otherwise stop being self entitled.

Here I was, thinking "I don't think ZA and I will ever fully agree on something".

And then this.

My hat is tipped.

OT: I'm not proud to be a gamer right now any more than the average gender-equality advocate is proud to be associated with militant feminism.
