Beating cancer

Hey Escapists. I've been fighting a form of bone cancer for around 10 months, and a couple days ago my scans came back clear. Presumably, I am now cancer-free. Needless to say, this is wonderful news. I have to thank this community for keeping me entertained during my hospital stays and tenure at home; I can't say how many new bands I've found and new sites I've learned about from you guys.

So, what have been you guys' experiences with cancer? Have any of you had it/have it? Loved ones who have had it?

Known quite a few people with cancer but that's about it, grats though, that's great news! What was it like being told you have cancer? How'd you respond to it?

My uncle recently died of cancer......also my friends mum had skin cancer

Sorry to necro this thread, but I've been busy for a few days and didn't respond to some of the stuff.

alas i guess im not as lucky as you last wednesday i went to see my doctor he said that i have one last type of chemo to try and if that does not keep my aggressive cancer at bay then all i can do is supress it before it kills, it really sucks being told you might not reach the age of twenty, but ive not lost hope yet, im just hoping this chemo does the job, congratulations btw i never gratz'd you in my previous comment

Um, it's not fun in the slightest. I think I took it pretty well, I had a period of time where I didn't know I had it for sure but I was personally pretty convinced that it was cancer so it didn't come as too much of a surprise to me when they told me. Some of the things they said were pretty scary at first; it was definitely hard to sleep at night sometimes. But you just eventually get used to everything. Everyone I knew was also pretty supportive. I tried not to exploit it or anything; besides the fact that I didn't go to school, it was actually fairly easy to just pretend I didn't have it. It didn't really keep me from doing too much, either. So I guess I'd say I reacted pretty well overall.

I had been going through quite a bit of pain before they did the biopsy of it, too, so mainly I was glad that the pain wasn't coming back.
