Its demeaning, I could never swallow enough pride to go on that show. That and the fact that I don't fit the geek stereotype enough to go on the show.

At least it's not "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo". Sometimes you just have to settle for the lesser of two evils.

in japan we had a drama series called densha otoko, which was about geeks falling in love with a girl totally out of their league, based on a true story from 2chan.

Of course, some geeks hated it but the majority loved it.

I know that in real life I have met people who would fit straight into the big bang theory.
I guess in reality shows they have to make sure that the geeks actually come across as geeky so they amplify it, but there are many people out there that do not need amplifying at all!

I fucking hate shit like that for the simple reason that it makes me feel that I, and those who share my interests, are being mocked. I mean, what other reason is there to make something where the defining characteristic is that someone is a "nerd" other than to laugh at them for being different. Reality TV is, for the most part, about making us feel better about ourselves by giving us people who we can laugh at and feel superior to, and this is no different.

We've all known reality TV to be scripted and/or heavily manipulated/edited for years now. This show is an obvious example of that. These kinds of shows are insulting to our intelligence as a species.

I don't know about recent seasons, or the Australian version. The last time I watched Beauty & the Geek was 4 years ago, so take this with a grain of salt, but...

Out of all the reality TV shows I've heard of/seen, Beauty & the Geek is by far the best in concept.

Every other reality tv show is something like, "Look at these idiots! Aren't they disgusting!?" But, I felt like Beauty and the Geek really was trying to help their contestants.

And the really cool thing? It wasn't just the geeks that were getting helped. The /Beauties/ were getting help, too. That really impressed me.

Sure, some of the contestants were gaming the system. Yeah, the show producers probably encouraged geekiness/valley-girl-ism.

But, the couple of times I watched the show, I really did feel like both the "geeks" & the "beauties" were getting something out of the experience and becoming more complete people.

Tangent: Big Bang Theory

I think the first season was laugh-WITH-nerds funny, but starting at about season 2 the show changed tone. It went into make-fun-of-Sheldon mode. I stopped watching around that time. (Again, that's what? 4 years ago? It could've evolved since then, so extra grains of salt here, too, pleases)

Can I just say the Big Bang theory isn't as nerd bashy as it used to be. First season fair enough fourth season barely at all.

OT: My TV froze on Beauty and the Geek once and it was the most cringeworthy shit I've quite possibly ever seen.

Well I used to like watching it back during the rise of reality TV (just to be clear I watched the UK version) but later on it just got repeatitive laster on with the other seasons.
Years ago I did watched some of the US later seasons when they decided to change it by adding a male beauty and a female geek. I didn't watch all of it since it was on only in the morning but my brother told me that those two dominated the rest of the teams.

Call me prejudiced, but as far as I'm concerned its just another crappy american reality TV show. Except now some idiot thought it would be a good idea to imitate it over here.

I wonder how 'reality television' ever got that name in the first place... especially when (hopefully) everyone knows it's not actually based in reality...

EDIT: Also, I've never actually heard of the show in question because I rarely if ever actually watch television.

Farmer Wants a Wife down under. It's a pile of bullshit, both on the farm and the actual show. As if those city girls would embrace that farmers life for that random guy and fall in love with him + kiss within like, a goddamn week.
