So it seems SEGA is getting in on the mini-console game against Nintendo, revealing a mini-Genesis that comes pre-installed with 80 games when compared to the mini-NES which has 30. The escalation has begun. We live in interesting times, and for once it's a good thing.

To get my attention, Sega would have to re-release the Dreamcast and its games.

Hey, and (one of them) it's mobile! That's actually kind of neat.

I mean, not neat enough for me to buy it. Not even close. But it at least offers novelty on the road, instead of a TV anchored mini brick that will quickly get lost in the cable nest.

EDIT: Also... are those expansion/memory slots on the Mobile Genesis?

You've been able to get those Sega consoles for years now and from what I can remember they're not very good.

On the same note, I'm wondering if that cartridge slot on the home console version is actually functional as one or merely decorative like the Mini NES'.

EDIT: after another user below pointed out the cartridge slot on the home version does work, I did some quick research and yes, the handheld version accepts SD cards loaded with games, by which I assume they mean ROMs. Which would compensate for the baffling omission of some notable Genesis games. Like for example having Sonic & Knuckles but not Sonic 3, when any Sonic fan worth his salt knows combining those two is the only real way to play them.

Can't wait to see the mini-Gameboy. Little black and white screen the size of a postage stamp.

Come on. They're riding a trend, not going to war. These thing sell for 60$, not hundreds like actual consoles. Chances are, if you're interested in one you're also interested in the other. Ans since it's cheap you will get both. There's no competition. If anything they're hyping this mini-console fad for more sales.

I've been wondering how a Game Boy Classic (not Mini because that would be ridiculously tiny like you said) could work. Rather than make a series of Mini GB's for the GB, GBC and GBA they should just combine them into one single console that has a selection of games for all three platforms. It should also have a HDMI port so you can play the games on the TV, maybe even with features based on the ones found in the Super Game Boy and Game Boy Player. It should also look like the original GBA (but larger with a bigger and better screen) rather than GB due to the L/R bumpers being necessary for GBA games. Maybe it could at least come in an original GB colour scheme.

Pretty sure the O.P. isn't being serious here.

I actually own one of those...that exact one I'm pretty sure. My mother picked it up at a discount grocery store like 2 years ago. It's a cartridge slot, and it works.

Whatever that food in your picture is, it looks amazingly cheesy.

So apparently that mini Sega has been around for years and isn't very good and around half the games are cheap shovelware

Pity because I would have been interested in this as I never owned a Mega Drive or any other Sega console for that matter

Now if Nintendo retaliates by releasing a SNES version with 100 games... Yes please.
And then Sega counters with a Saturn version that has a bunch of import games on it.

Shut up I can dream.
