Really? Another "robots will rise and kill us" joke? It's not like the Wildcat, awesome as it is, can compete with the Nuclear Laser Tank we've got running around Mars.
You're wrong, NASA doesn't have a Nuclear Laser Tank on Mars.
It has a Nuclear Laser JETPACK Tank on Mars. Presumably it can make an extra movement in the assault phase.

As for the robot itself....
I can't help but think the military already had the technology for this.
It ran on bio-fuels, had a limited self-repair system and was carbon neutral.
I think i have a picture here...

This whole end of the world robots are going to kill us joke is starting to get quite annoying. It's almost as if you guys actually believe that stuff. Those who try to stop progress will only be run over by it.

Funding from DARPA....gee...I wonder how/ where this marvel of technology will be applied/ deployed.
Well almost all groundbreaking technologies were first applied in the military field, it's nothing new. I think we can safely assume in a decade robots like that will be killing people in wars and after two decades we may actually see medical application of this technology (mechanical limbs and stuff like that).

I wondered why it was moving backwards, until I counted the joints. :p
That was my first thought too - has something gone wrong? Or is it escaping into the (brightly lit) night?

I love stuff like this, primarily because it serves no obvious purpose (I'm sure it will lead to advances etc, but intrinsically) - it's science for the sake of fun/seeing what we can achieve just 'cause :)

Except that a robot doesn't panic when under fire, which is a major advantage.

And insensitive comments like that is how they will kill us.

THE ROBOTS WILL RISE D:

OT:
Angry bees.

That's all I'm hearing.

Someone needs to edit the Oprah Winfrey gif and replace either her or the bees with WildCats

Aww is the scary robot giving you nightmares?

None of you are allowed to live with me and the robots in our glorious techno-future.

pretty good for a prototype. Can't wait til they add some polish to it and increase the scale

Now to make the rest and add in the ability to merge together into a megazord.
Zord's? no no Zoid's would be much better they don't combine although sometimes they do that too

ah, that diesel engine when it powers up, makes it feel way more scary.
Thing is - no longer need for attached cables, so it can now cover long distances alone.
But it needs to work on its breaks, crashing does not work all the time. it also feels VERY heavy the way inertial seem to ahve swindled it. but i guess you got to be heavy when you are carrying a freaking motor inside you.

Was that autonomous or radio-controlled?
If I had to guess, it was either radio-controlled or had a set of pre-installed instructions. that isn't what is on display here, though. We are looking at a land based robot that can run faster than a human on flat terrain. The fact that it can even do that is amazing.
at the begining of the video you see the two guys coming away fromg it. one holds soemthing that looks a lot like a radio control mechanism.
