This needs to be animated, if for no other reason then to give us the greatest giff on earth. With which to torture Griffith apologists.

Captcha: Take Umbrage.

See, even captcha hates Griffith.

I actually disagree. There is still a way for this to work, thematically. The series is heavily symbolic, and there's a lot going on. So I see two ways for this to end (assuming it ends). One good, one bad.

The first is tied into the anti-religious aspects of the story. Essentially, The Idea of Evil exists to validate humanity and give it a reason for all of its suffering. It's a way to avoid the nihilistic reality of the Berserk world. Killing the Idea of Evil, in essence, would mean killing the idea of God in humanity. Humanity would then be free to set its own course, and find its own meaning. It's kind of like How Shinji learns to validate himself by giving himself value. Once he has that self confidence, he's free to find meaning in his own life, and others come to respect his self confidence. It's kind of like that, except replace Shinji with the entire human race. Of course, Guts could never win a physical battle with the Idea of Evil, so there would have to be some kind of symbolic victory. Essentially, this ending would probably be rooted in Nietzsche's philosophy. There's also the tragedy of the main trio. Griffith has taken the body of Caska's son, so he still feels some emotion. This is his Achilles heel, as his greatest sin could be his downfall. Skull Knight will probably destroy himself killing Void. Schierke will probably survive, but have to kill Sonia during the final climactic struggle. There will be many tears.
I don't know if I could see that working for Berserk. Something like EVA runs more on metaphors, which makes grand, sweeping scenarios like that more viable. But Berserk is more literal as well as subtle by comparison. It's lore is also many, many times larger.

The whole idea of Evil in the shape of God hasn't even really been introduced yet in this universe. There was the one chapter somewhere during the Eclipse that Miura removed because he felt it revealed too much, and it has never been brought up since to my recollection. That would still take some time to set up properly. Also, Shierke's mentor (can't remember her name) stated that while the realm the Godhand inhabit could be considered Hell, there might be an opposite place one could consider Heaven with beings of equal power. Again, something I doubt Miura just name-dropped for the heck of it.

There's just so much to sort through that I doubt this franchise could be closed off without massive parts going unconcluded.

I've only seen the original series and not the OVA. I really want to see what happened after the cliffhanger, but I don't know if the OVA is worth it and if the Manga STILL isn't finished......
Well, the OVA might not be worth it as of now, since the original series is superior in most every aspect, mainly the art and it also shows more details of the Golden Age. You can still read the manga, though if you liked Casca, you might be disappointed for some time (hope you like vegetables). There's a lot of it even before the Golden Age and unless you plan to storm through it you should be good for some time. Read a chapter a week, that way it will last a few months with over 330 chapters.

Let us ... Keep calm on that matter.
After all, us Berserk fans have plenty to keep us alive. Like this [http://a.mhcdn.net/store/manga/176/337.0/compressed/k013.jpg?v=1412379733] and beating up the Griffith apologists. To be honest though, all we have to do is wait. Either we get more and rejoice, or we get none and move on with our lives.

Though nothing will be like Berserk.
And of course the other series listed here.
Oh my, this was utterly hilarious and quite depressing at the same time. Fricking boat...

Metroid. There hasn't been a new Metroid game in almost 8 years, which is why the fans are so livid about Federation Force.
I love Nintendo, but good lord are they clueless about anything that's not Mario or Zelda.

Eva is even worse, as I didn't hate 3.0 because I have a tiny sliver of hope that 3.0 is setting up something awesome for 4.0. Not that I'll get to see 4.0 in my lifetime, it seems, considering there's not even a dub release date for 3.0.

Maybe I should just read the Manga and say, screw it.

The manga is vastly superior to anything else that's come out of the Eva franchise.

OT: Ah yes, the pain of being a fan, and the delight of not having to experience that pain by not being one. I could never understand the mindset of people obsessing over stuff like checking every day for new information about the next ASOIAF. I'm not heartbroken about Winds of Winter being delayed to infinity. I'm not heartbroken over Berserk moving at the pace of an iceberg that's still part of Antarctica. I'm not crying myself to sleep over the fact that Korra got axed before it could reach its true potential. And I certainly don't lose sleep over the fact that my grandchildren's grandchildren will be dead before Episode 3 comes out. I don't consider myself a "fan" of much anything, because all I ever see is people bitching about how "Fans of X are the worst!" and I just can't muster the passion to make some work of fiction a vital part of my life. Life goes on. There's always new stuff to find. And when the bus eventually comes back, sometimes after years, it's a very pleasant surprise when you weren't expecting it to come back in the first place.

Remember, you can't spell "fanatic" without "fan".

Was it at least a nice boat?

OT: I've been lucky in that most of my favorite stuff hasn't left me in the lurch waiting. However, I did get a real guy punch last week when I found out Hannibal was cancelled. I guess at least there is some finality in knowing that Hannibal has been cancelled by NBC. There's still a small hope that Bryan Fuller can get the series picked up by some streaming service, but the reality is that the third season is likely the last I'm ever going to see of the series.

At least your hiatuses get broken on occasion. I'm man enough to admit I was enjoying the josei manga Nana which took a break because the manga-ka needed time off for health reasons. That one year break is now 6 and counting. And the discussion of long breaks would be incomplete without the 12 year and counting hiatus x/1999 has been on.

Not that's I'm always happy on the American end either. Viz's lack of interest in Urusei Yatsura still pisses me off, and I have a few series from small manga publishers and Tokyopop one volume away from completion before they went out of business.

EDIT: Oh, and the big one for me: the last few Twelve Kingdoms novels.

A few years ago I started reading a manga called The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. Apparently the cases are meticulously researched and it does come across - the translation notes are a joy to read - but the English translation gets released at a snail's pace. I realise that a lot of effort and work goes into these things but I started reading this series in 2008 and I'm losing interest in corpse-of-the-week plots that occasionally tie into something bigger but don't go any further.

Didn't the Ah My Goddess manga start in 1988 and finish in 2014? And people complain about GRRM! XD

After I posted that, I found that all of the DVD's are available on Amazon(though apparently the full box set is not...for reasons). I'll look around and see if I can find a full set.

At least that was 48 volumes and never took an extended break. It's just naturally slow.

I need more Gravity Falls. Very very badly. I haven't heard anything about the next season and it's starting to kill me.

OT- I guess that would be Wakfu (tv series) for me. In saying so I'm not French as in being unable to read any French news on it's development! Heck I only discovered the recnet OVA by accidently (which it was awesome to watch).

(New) Doctor who anyone? I like the show itself but it has felt so dripfeed-y the past few years I've given up on it more than once regardless. Simply because by the time a new season starts I've forgotten how the last even ended.

Then there's the whole issue of being European and thus getting to wait an extra year for everything for no discernable reason. Notably game of thrones, of which season 5 does not (legally) start here until spring 2016. Thanks for plastering finale spoilers all over the internet by the way, much appreciated...

Finally there's attack on titan season two I suppose, although that one I recognize is just me being impatient rather than any real underlying organizatorial issues.

Yeah, I recently watched Skip Beat, which was obviously cut short, and the author takes FOREVER to do anything. I turned to the manga only to find that it's been in serialization for nearly as long as Naruto, which is insane for a shoujo, since they have a better habit of wrapping things up in a quicker, more concise manner. Unless you're Rumiko Takahashi, who sort of blends the shounen and shoujo genres together pretty well. Or Yuu Watase, who never finished Nana. >.>

It is, infact, so hard to be a fan these days, that I dropped Naruto altogether and just started getting the storyline through the Ultimate Ninja Storm games. It's all the story minus the filler and bullshit posturing, plus I get to play a CyberConnect2 game, which is always fun.

Sometimes not even then - remember, we have yet to get a true next generation Zelda or Mario game. Super Mario 3D World is just a bigger version of Super Mario 3D Land, but with co-op. It's not nearly a true successor, like 64, Sunshine, or Galaxy. Who knows if the new Zelda will even be out in 2016.

And let's not get started on JoJo.
And what about it? Araki hasnt missed a deadline in over 30 years, and its been a monthly serial ever since Steel Ball Run.
The Manga, sure, but the anime had a 6 year gap, then a 5 year gap, then another 5 year gap and finally a year long period between releases (though that last one is at least normal for a series, even if it was a literal year between the end of one and the start of another).
