I do find it a little cheap when an advanced player destroys newer players with skills they don't know/ are barely able to use.
I mean, I understand if an advanced player was winning all the time, but being a jerk about it just kills the fun, and they should really be playing agianst gamers of their level if they aren't willing to be a good sport with a newb.
This is why I quit playing World of Warcraft. I made it to Ashenvale on a PvP server, and players who were higher levels than me kept killing me, waiting by my corpse for me to respawn, and then killing me again. They did this so much, it forced me to log off and wait until they left. It would be one thing if it only happened once, but it happened every friggin' time I logged on! Because of this, I canceled my WoW subscription.

So, the point is, you're right about advanced players being jerks. They should play with people at their own skill level rather than torture newer players.

Does anyone read the whole thing? darthcendiarygrenade got it right when he said my friend is a gears elitist. I tried playing using all the stuff he doesnt do and he still kicks my ass
(but only on gears, were about equal in everything else)

Gah, I hate that term with a passion.

On topic This isn't a ''noob'' theory, it's just people people need something to insult eachother over game features that they are not particularly skilled with. Active reloads rewards your timing and there's no reason why the other player shouldn't do it.

If there's a weapon that's easy to use, and you're killed by it the last thing you should to is call them a ''noob'' - You should learn how to counter it. I've heard of grenades stuck to doorframes. That does sound annoying, but hey. throw your own grenadea around.
I hate the term too but i couldn't thhink of another way to describe carmine

Also why has this thread turned itno a MW2 thread
Gah. I know nothing 'bout MW2.

Perhaps you could just say ''New guy'' or 'recruit' Instead?

Is that Bill Nye in your avatar?

OT: IT's not being a noob for being resourceful, it's being a noob if that's all you use or something.

Now your being a n00b if you, for Example, in a Fighting game use the SAME ATTACK OVER AND OVER AND OVER IN THE SAME MATCH.
Not even trying to put a decent combo or special attack together.
I'm not sure I would categorize this as being a n00b. Let's say, using Street Fighter as an example, I'm playing Ryu and I throw a fireball. You try to jump the fireball only to mistime the jump and land on it. I see it works and throw another, you land on that one too. Is it really n00bish for me to throw a third or fourth and so on if you keep getting hit by them? That would be boring gameplay, certainly, but it's hardly n00bish to do what works.

Ok, i didn't real ALL the posts but I get the gist. It depends on the situation. there is a difference between n00b and n00bish. n00b is doing something stupidly like throwing a sticky grenade on yourself or or not knowing how to capture a defense point. N00bish is when you are skilled to the point you don't see any reason to exhert yourself so you will use every cheap means of winning i.e. dual shotguns (really? how do you do that?) or two piecing (yeah Epic, you did a horrendous job of fixing that on GoW2). I admit i have done some n00bish things and i don't appologize if only because I am NOT that skilled but know those n00bish maneuvers. I am also a part time glitcher which is sometimes a n00bish maneuver. Those who play Battlefield: Bad Company know where i am going there. Same with the L4D jesus rooms. The point I am making is that most n00bishness is installed in the game due to programmers thinking "HEY! I wish I could launch a nuke from my codpiece and live to Hulk-out on any of the unfortunate survivors" (you can't tell me none of you would turn away from doing that).

well, theres two kinds of n00bs, first theres the kind that either cheats the game or doesnt know how to play for shite, and then theres the kind that only exists to elitists when they call someone a n00b for simply killing them
[sup]theres actually three, the two n00bs and then a newb thats just simply new to the game, but thats spelt differently...[/sup]

Why do you flame MW2 so much? Sure, it's a shit game, but I don't see you making any games, now do I?
It's an example. He chose an extremely unbalanced game that everyone knows about. Also, it's a genuinely bad game. Call me crazy, but openly disliking a game (like my utter hate for 90% of all movie-games) is not wrong. Nor is using said crap game (in your own opinion of course) as an example frequently.

Players claim it's a "Noob" move in order to try to balance the game using peer pressure. I have never played Gears of War, so I cannot comment on those perks.

But to be fair, there are "Noob" perks. Example, Martydom in cod4, when the blast range was ridiculously large. Players then shunned people who used it in a hope to balance the game (despite the immature methods) those perk users were then pressured into not using them, and joined the ranks of people who said you were a Noob if you used it.

That's my interpretation of it at least.

It's a legitimate mechanic and strategy in-game so why not use it?

It reminds me of when I watch my cousin play Halo 3 online. He constantly whines about the "Newbs" camping with a shotgun. I understand his frustration but they're hardly the inferior player if they consistently kill you.

It's just an Occam's razor approach to gaming. The most simple strategy is often the most Affective.

You're only a noob if the method allows really cheap and easy kills, like the grenade launchers in MW 1 and 2. That's why I hate anything that instantly kills without requiring much skill.
Jesus what is with the haters? I hate matry like there is no tomorrow but I don't say it is a noob/cheap/easy way to get kills. The nade launcher is perfected valid just like marty.

I've thought about this, one of my friends always rages like hell when he gets killed and will then go on a 10minute rant about how his killer was a noob... usually it comes down to the gun being too good, for example the MP40 with aperture site in WaW. I always thought using better guns is what you're supposed to do but... maybe im just not getting it.

Edit: actually...after reading a few more posts i think i get it.

Exactly. Which is why today I bought Dragon Age to cure me of my masochistic MW2 addiction. Yay!

Fixed.

So as a Gears veteran, here is my opinion on you friends "Analysis":

STUPID.
The characters you play as have nothing to do with skill level.
Active reloads are what EVERYONE does, and if he doesn't, than HE is the noob.

You'r friend sounds like he has no idea what the hell he is talking about.

If it's in the game and meant to be there ie not a glitch or bug then its using your head, no matter how unbalanced it is, you can blame the developers for that not the players.

OT: If its in the game, and its not a glitch, its perfectly fair. Even if it is an over-powered weapon.
Even Akimbo 1887s?
Those were just completely overpowered weapons which if you were spotted first, you'd be dead.
And that's why they released that patch to make it not so cheap

I have to go with "anything designed to be there is there by design."

Arguments go around in circles about this, really.

Laying mines in high traffic areas, grenade launchers, rocket launchers, etc. have always been called cheap because they often insta-kill. (I have even heard the argument applied to shotguns but I digress.)

However, those who complain about these weapons ignore their obvious disadvantages. You cannot be stealthy when firing an explosive. You cannot be fast when you are firing a bazooka. If one cannot identify and take advantage of a "noob" build, then I propose that, perhaps, the person complaining is the noob.
I'd have to agree. But I stray away from anything considered 'n00by' because that way I can show that I do things through shear skill regardless of the equiptment I use.
