What is your opinion on celebrities/being famous? I don't mean all of the garbage and drama that celebrities create, but do you seek to be famous or to have followers? I was talking about this with a friend of mine and was wondering what you think.

Personally, I want to be famous. I think that it is empowering to feel that people want to hear what you have to say, and also to have the money and such would be nice. My personal opinion is that if I were famous, I could help other people, and that's something that I try to do, which is why I am trying. Recently started up a youtube channel because I want to become famous for entertaining others, and so I uploaded a few videos, but nothing really big yet. I used to have 15,000 subscribers when I did newscasting for Fable II, but since then I have created a new account, and thus here I am, trying to rise to the top!

So what's your goal?

heres how I see it

"X" first...THEN fame is not a bad thing, (like art, movies, music, even your persona)

"I want to be famous for the sake of being famous" is NOT good..thats where we get relaity TV and jersy shore, and a downard spiral

I dont want to be famous, I want to acheive things but fame isnt part of it, because I think fame is a shallow goal in of itself, I pobably wouldnt cope well with the attention anyway

I do however..feel a buzz at the Idea that somone out there has read what I have to say..or Ive even entertained somone..made them laugh or rage..I guess thats why I visit thease forums

Assuming I had nothing to lose, I would just stop giving a shit and flash every passerby I see. I'll give those bastards at Fox something to talk about, alright.

Did you not think of the negatives? People like Hutch and seananners get bombarded with people yammering at them and wanting attention off them

People constantly coming up to you and asking questions or for autographs, your email and stuff being spammed with stupid questions.

Having to cop with people even when you just want to shop or need to do chores.

People ripping you apart and hurling insults at you for anything and everything, "your fat/ugly/an attention whore/money grubbing/etc" people insulting your family, woodysgamertag has people saying how nice/sexy his 13 year old daughter is!

It's a lot to deal with and people don't think about it until it happens, you have to grow a thick skin or be destroyed.

<url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/2-50-Reviews>What followers? I don't have any followers.

OT: If people like what I have to say, then I'm happy. If I can influence them for the better, then that's fine. But going out of your way to be a people-pleaser just to get followers is petty and stupid. If you're walking on knives trying not to offend anyone, acting like you want everyone to love you, you're going about things the wrong way, I think. But if you say things that people agree with and can reinforce those types of values, there's nothing wrong with that.

I'd want to be famous, just for the money. If it mean I have to be pestered all the time then fine.

I like money!

Not really. I mean, it's appealing for sure, but I've never really been a guy to do things for attention, but it would be a little neat to have a thousand people following you.

And then again, I don't like having nay sayers around me. I'll mull it over for days if someone I know disagrees with what I say, or ends up pissing me off. With fame comes haters, and I have a nasty habit of sending a wall o'text at anything that gives me a glimpse of negativity.

So yeah, no fame for me. And I like what the other person said above. Do something because you absolutely enjoy doing it, not just so people will like you for it. Being famous to be famous is never really a good thing.

I wouldn't want to be famous just because for the sake of it, I rather be famous for my talent if I had any (ley gay I became famous for my drawings).
Even then I would only want small amount of the fame but not to much to the point I loose my privacy. Even then I would be under pressure to be forcing myself to be careful of my words or where I go.
Like any other famous people such controversy may lead to their downfall and the presses love that kind fo stuff.

I think if I had to be famous, which I am not sure I want to or not, I would like to be famous within a smaller community, much like day[9] or the guys over at Mini War Gaming. I think it is just easier to "keep it real" that way.

I would prefer my work to be famous, rather than me. (I'm an aspiring writer) Many people such as writers or musicians may produce famous, critically acclaimed, or vary influential and significant work without really attracting too much attention themselves. It's the art, not the artist, which is important in my mind.

Fame should be earned.

The vast majority of people who crave fame are not talented enough in any area of their lives to ever be famous.

Then we have reality TV rejects, who are the same as the people in the paragraph above, but show enough sociopathic tendencies that banging them all in the same room for a prolonged period of time creates enough 'tension' to be considered 'good TV'.

The world needs more people like

And

And

And less people like

And

And

I think there's nothing wrong being locally famous, say being a member of a really popular local band, or doing something heroic, as these people actually know you, and you've not necessarily gone out of your way or been obnoxious. But being nationally/internationally famous must get really annoying, I can't see why anyone would want to do it intentionally.

I'd hate to be famous. You couldn't do anything without the whole fucking world knowing and complaining.

It seems to me OP that your post kind of contradicts itself. On one hand you want people to hold you up to relatively high standards while acquiring money and power, but on the other you want to help people. Now don't get me wrong, there are famous people who have a lot of money and who help people, however, how you described it, you only seem to want to be famous for your own personal gains, and not really to help others.

Nevertheless, I believe that being famous for the sake of being famous is a sin. The only thing people seem to think about when they attempt to become famous is solely for the money and their supposed power over others. Because once those people get a taste of what it's like to have money and power over people's opinions, they do one of two things:

1. They crave more.

2. They abuse their newfound social status.

A few people before me have stated that you should become well-known through the work that you do. After all, this world is full of attention-starved, money grubbing, power hungry narcissists, but only so many who would rather allow their work to become famous so that it might somehow influence/inspire others.

EDIT: Oh and screw being famous, I'd rather live comfortably and within my means while enjoying the limitless creative boundaries of my own devices than all the money, power, and attention any day.

Wait...are we talking about internet/youtube famous or actually famous?

I don't think I'd like to be famous, for the simple fact that I don't want my entire life to be broadcast to the world 24 hours a day 7 days a week. That aside, I completely loathe the fact that celebrity break-ups and goings on outweigh actual news.

And if I make a youtube video with 1,000,000 views, does that make me famous? I think South Park had an episode about this...

CAPTCHA: And frannt.

Ah. Yes, I can't forget frannt 0_o

Not something I particularly care about, I'd rather make a difference and have no one know than be known and make no difference.

Of course, making a difference and being known would be quite nice, I'm under no illusion as to the benefits of popularity and I hold no real secrets so being spied on 24/7 wouldn't bother me, I wager the paparazzi would swiftly get bored of me if I ever do become known.

By the by I want to go into politics (yes I know, but I hope to make something of an impact and change it) so fame may end up coming to me regardless. To be frank though I really don't think it will change a thing. Famous or no I don't really get my kicks from how other people see me, my locus of control is pretty well internal.

People like Kim Kardashian have made "being famous" an undesirable thing. So no, I doubt I'd want to be famous.
