I can't help but feel my boss may be trying to sabotage my job. I've been working there 2 years now and he has been nice, but suddenly i'm getting a whole bunch of things called 'write-ups' (they're very bad). I'm really panicking because I can't afford to lose my job, but i'm the only one getting these, for things that i've seen other people doing without consequence. (I won't get into what, but they're not big or major things)

or other things simply like forgetting to punch myself back in after i'm finished a break, but still returning on time to work. It's frustrating and frightening. Suggestions?

If you're getting written up the best thing to do is toe the line as best as you can. Do everything in your power to not break the rules.

If the write ups are unjustified (i.e. you aren't doing what you're getting written up for, not "everyone else is doing it and they aren't getting in trouble") then you could try to fight it. To do so you would have to take it to HR, or a union rep, or whatever organization your job has in place for that. Not an ideal solution, but it's there.

If you're actually not at all sure why you're getting written up, another option is to talk to your boss, something like "Look, I've been here for 2 years and I've noticed I'm suddenly getting these write ups. I like this job and want to keep it, so what can I do to improve performance and avoid this happening more." If you do this, keep it to something like that because: 1) It doesn't accuse the boss of being unfair to you. 2) It shows rather than being upset at the write ups (even if you actually are) you're concerned and 3) you want to avoid further conduct that is causing the problem (or perceived problem) in the first place.

But do not try the "That guy over there does it too" defense because it will not work in the workplace, not ever.

It doesn't really matter what the other employees do...maybe he is putting added stuff on you to see if you can handle it and you're just in line for a promotion. Think positive nonetheless.

You list your occupation as "layabout". How the hell can you screw that up?
