Yeah, sometimes I go as far as to try to be neat and organized in some of my games.
Mainly RTS titles, like most recently Supreme Commander 2.
I'd make a mass extractor, then plop two energy generators next to it, followed by research stations on the other sides.
Other times I'd have little build systems where each factory would have two energy stations on each side and my turret defenses were neatly rowed up with shield generators at each fifth one with artilary in between...
I do this mainly because I can, in Supreme Commander I mean.
Same in Command and Conquer 3.
When I make a generator, I spin it around so the entrance portion was facing a road or pathway, then I'd plop it down so it looked like nice tidy base.
I've also found that I do it with units.
Lets go back to Supreme Commander.
I like making a group of tanks, then a smaller group of assault bots, and finally an experimental, getting them lined up, organized, and looking neat, and then roll in an start blowing the crap out of things.
Eh...
I mean if the game is getting intense, or I have to micro like in Starcraft, I would only focus on building and gathering...
I'm sure I'm not the only one.

It's an obsession for me.

My armies in Total War Games are always standardized with specific amounts of specific units. In Fallout 3 I carry a Melee weapon, a Pistol, and an Assault Rifle at all times, as well as some food, water, and medical supplies. My old RTS days had me set up my bases to be spaced out in (sort of) logical ways, but I always arranged my "houses" when those were in games (Age of Empires) into street patterns. My bags/UI in WoW used to be tightly structured to be uniform across all my characters so I knew exactly where to find stuff on each and every one of my characters.

The list goes on like that. I just like to keep everything simply organized and easy to understand so that I spend less time trying to find or plan stuff and more time playing the game. :)

I like to make sure each and every one of my pokemon are at a decided level before moving on to the next area. Not just 6, the boxes too.

In RPGs I always have to keep my items in alphabetical order if the game does not do that already for me.
In FFXI it's practically an OCD thing as I spend much of my free time categorizing my equipment in the four different storage units you are give. All sorted by category and put in alphabetical order, there is an auto sort which I use then go through and manually move items to fit in a manner I most prefer.
Mog Safe: Melee Weapons, Ranged Weapons, Throwing/Ammo equipment, Grips.
Mog Locker: Armor - Head, Body, Hands, Legs, Feet, Neck, Belt, Back, Ring, Earring.
Storage: Event Armor, Crafting Items, Quest Items, Imcomplete sets for unlocking items, Items I never use but don't have the heart to toss
Satchel: Consumables, Food, Extra ammo, Warp/Teleport items, Keys.
Then my actual inventory is rather free-game due to the constantly changing nature.

It does let me change jobs excessively fast though.

I do that in Fallout. I keep different things in different cabinets in my house. For example: I put all my gnomes in the extra room upstairs. I put all my clothes in the filing cabinet in the bedroom. Weapons, in the lockers across from the door, and parts for making stuff in the cabinet closest to the door.

I always keep everything Video Game related organized. Both in games, and the games themselves need to be all neat and tidy.

One of my mods adds a house that had cabinets specifically named after what could go in there, such as "Weapons" or "Armor".

Needless to say, items that go in those named cabinets match their name.

especially in an RTS, sometimes in RE4 and Guild Wars I'll shift things around to keep it neat.

I put the games by system then alphabetically, leaving the case for the current game in the system on top of the unit that my TV is on, for quick access.

In terms of in game organization, all my goodies go into object type specific containers when applicable.

I'm generally organized, in similar ways the OP mentions.

Except in oblivion, where I fill rooms with skulls and delight in bouncing them all over the place.

I always keep everything organised, but that's just something that comes with being obsessive compulsive I guess.

But for some reason, I never organise my base in an RTS. Well, not beyond production in front facing the enemy, resource gathering/power in the back and research in the middle near my main base.

I did literally this exact same thing. The spare parts would go next to the work bench, my clothes would be in the filing cabinet next to my bed, drinks and the like in the spare room. I even ended up raiding the armory and turned it into a "panic room" of sorts. I kept all of my weapons, grenades, mines, and spare ammo on the shelves and in the boxes, and kept a large stock of RadAway and stimpacks in the safe, as well as an Advanced Radiation Suit...I feel very ashamed admitting all of this...

*clears throat*
Been clean and tidy is best for stealth games, if only more realised that a tone of blood and gore splattered all over the place with screams and gunshots would probably alleart everyone from ehre to timbucktoo

In any RPG mostly Dragon Age atm i try and make sure any and all of my characters levels are at equal numbers and each have the appropriate stat boosters so they get through a battle a quickly as possible without losing to much health. It's so i can store all my health items and get more and more as i progress.
