Being silly

This thread is silly! Well, not yet it is (it would be, if we were living in a alternative universe, where everything is silly by default), but we could make it one. You, on the other hand, I consider silly, and that is a compliment. I enjoy a good jest and appreciate people, who can laugh even when shit hits the fan. When you reach a certain age, however, things usually become bloody serious. If you continue to be silly, you are looked upon as retard and people start shunning you in fear of catching the stupid (slightly exaggerating). Especially around upper secondary school rationality really kicks in and people start valuing intelligence more then imagination and laughter (personal observation).

When I was in Finnish equivalent of high school, we had a close-knit group of friends, who were always jesting and making fun of everything. There were those who laughed with us, and those poor buggers who thought, all that fooling around was childish. Now, funny thing is, most of the students laughing with us, were one of the brightest in our school. So it´s not just the intelligence that makes us serious. What is? Growing old? Is it really considered inappropriate to joke around and laugh at things when you are grown-up, facing the hardships of life?

I say "Noooooooooooooo!"...sorry, I´ll stop that. I don´t think it´s cool or appropriate to make fun of other people´s misfortune, but I can laugh at myself and the bizarreness of our wacky little world. I love the absurd humour of Monty Python and the Marx Brothers, and I try to bring some of it to everyday life (which is probably the main reason some people feel awkward when in my company). Why not being silly, if only to prevent myself from putting a gun between my teeth? How do you see silliness? Do you consider yourself silly?

Lets unwind for a sec and be silly, silly, silly...

I couldn't agree more.
Anyway, I try to maximize silliness whenever possible. That's probably why I derail threads with excessive frequency.
Thank you for correcting me. Try derailing this and I´ll slapstick you silly.

And constantly and addictively expressing yourself in italic :)

Aaaaanyway, since my jug is now on the table, I won't be able to get the necessary effect of which I desired. Damn that jug, I'll need to find a replacement tomorrow. Don't tell her, though, she'll definately be crushed with learning this. Look at her, all chitchatting with that cactus... I really want to kill that spiky bush, and I'm slowly accomplishing my deviant scheme by not giving him any water. Seems like half a year into my plan, he's still holding out. My plan might need some revising, but I'll keep on going for some time yet.

He'll never know what hit 'im. *Evil face*

Being silly is awesome. I, like you, also have a group of friends who enjoy being just overly silly. Different kinds of silly with different people (and sometimes bordering on straight out weird, but in a silly way) though, but silly nonetheless.
Though in contrast, at my school being silly and weird is more of the norm, and the few people who are actually pretty serious are the ones who get the weird looks amd the facepalms. :p
The reason for this might be that our school is a school focused on "artsy" stuff, with painters, scupltors, musicians, actors and the like roaming the halls, though. These people have a tendency to be kind of weird and plain silly (myself included).

Do you walk round with a large black moustache, glasses and a cigar? 'Cos that would explain people feeling awkward.

Be careful; if you're too silly it can wrap around the silliness spectrum and become super-serious.

Be careful now. Those sneaky cacti are quite tough little fellows. Real fighters. Just when you thought he´s done for, he´ll strike and burst every balloon you have. *Sob* I´ll never forget that loss.

Ah, it´s a joy to watch those serious types squirm in discomfort, shaking their arrogant little heads in shame. Sounding a little bitter, am I? Nay. Those artsy types I, however, can understand. They tend to be weird by nature (although most of them are weird to the point of scary.)

EDIT:

That would be great fun, but unfortunately no. Rather, it´s the Groucho way of talking that makes people squirm.
