Seconded.

The only one that came even close, in my opinion, was Akira.
I keep hearing about that series, but for some reason I got the impression that it was episodic. Is there a real plot to it? I guess I'll have to break down and go read it, along with that Junji Ito fella.
It's actually more plot driven than Berserk. There's only two real arcs, if you can even call them that. Not as good as Berserk though.

Well, the author of Berserk said at this point the story is 60-70% done.

It's been running since 1989. That means the ending is another 10-20ish years away.

There's an overarching plot, but it's a long series, and a good part of its run consists of more or less self-contained episodes.

As far as manga goes, though, in my opinion it's really in a class of its own.

Aaand, Miura takes a break. Come back next year!

But yeah, I'm excited to see what will happen to Casca. Will she even recover? How much do Guts's friends know about their past? Will she gain ALL of her memories? What about her feelings towards Guts and Griffith?

Let's suppose that Caska turns out just fine. What will happen next? Does Guts want to stay on the island or go back to fight Griffith?

It seems to me that no matter how Guts feels about things, he will have to fight Griffith before long. Partly because he's about the only person that can maybe stand up to him. But also because I don't think Griffith will leave Guts alone for long. And we saw what happened with Rickert. They're almost certain to cross paths again, and I think that would force Guts to act.

I don't think Miura would string readers along for this long without any kind of payoff. I think the resolution of Casca's story will be satisfying, but also come with a price. It will likely serve as a plot hook for the final act of the story.

As for joining Griffith... yeah, that would never happen. No.

Oh, I agree completely. Having Miura to end the series any other way would feel like cheating. I'm already kinda expecting Guts to start a new dark age for humanity with the death of Griffith. I still haven't figured out what does Guts's child have to do with any of this. What's his role in the story? And is the separation of worlds even possible anymore?
