crowbar for melee, solid and dependable for skull crushing.

ranged id go with the ak47 since the bullets are very common and its a low maintance gun.
Of course I would also carry some kind of pistol and knife as well.

Id go with Crowbar as well. nice and heavy made of harden steel, and can be used to get into places.

Crowbar for the zombie apocalypse!

Use to think metal bat myself but its kind of a one trick pony compared to the Crowbar

p.s. also would be nice to have a Katana and a sharpening/honing stone.

If I have unlimited ammunition: That Sonic Boom gun from Black Ops.
Otherwise: An axe. Only thing I can think of.

AK-47 with bayonet. Tough as nails, 7.62X39 is fairly common, and a bayonet for when the magazine's empty.
Pretty good answer this one. Changed my mind about my initial choice.

So my second choice would be a greatsword. Those things were made for taking on large masses of angry civilians or condensed pike formations. So theyre pretty ideal for zombies and they dont need batteries

If you could use anything at all, I don't know why I rarely see anyone say Lightsaber. Come on, that's basically unfair for the zombies and though I'm not 100% on this, but I am pretty sure they don't run out of batteries.

If you mean realistically, then... I still say lightsaber, because zombies aren't realistic either :p

edit: I guess a bat or something sturdy and easy to use

Crowbar.

Not only is it an effective weapon for pulping zombie heads, it's also a tool to pry open things. It has more than one use, and so is an excellent zombie apocalypse weapon.

A military Entrenching tool aka shovel. It can take a zombies head off, compact lightweight, and can be used to bury the bodies.

I'd have to say a shotgun as well. With the variety of ammunition available, shells, and buck mostly, That would do some work.
Unless you want to destroy the gun you need a different barrel for different types of ammunition. That and you would need to manually change the choke if you went from small ball bearings to larger ones, and that takes a few minutes.

OT: Anything? Solar powered hover ship that is large enough to house a good number of people and fields to feed them. Why worry about the Zs if you are out of their reach?

Realistically, Vietnam fox shovel. The real world Lobo only with a shorter handle and folds up for portability.

An aircraft carrier. Once you've lifted anchor and made sure its cleared, I don't see anyone getting on board in the first place. Assuming Zombies can't swim and drive other boats of course.

Duh.
Now you have burning zombies going after you.
Minecraft has shown that they never last long. It's flaming skeletons and creepers that are the real danger.

OT: The engineer's PDA

Step #1- Dispenser for infinate ammo
Step #2- Sentry gun for protection
Step #3- Teleporter to the nearest supermarket for additional supplies
Success! Now all you need to fear are zombie spies
