Dad's we talked about last night and while Mother's Day is a while off who are the best and worst gaming Mom's?

Best:

Maria Douglas (DOA)
Taking a bullet for your daughter now there's a Mom

The Boss (MGS)
Probably shouldn't have gone to Normandy Nine Months pregnant but makes up for it in spades.

Amelia Croft (Tomb Raider)
Good Mom who made one major mistake

Sophitia (Soul Caliber)
Spends eternity fighting to protect her kid what a woman

Yohn (Suikoden Tactics )
Selfless as only a mom can be

Worst:

Jenova (FF7)
Sephiroth enough said

Me (Fable 2)
I was to busy for my babies

The Queen (Ico)
Sacrificing your only child? Jesus lady

Alma Wade (F.E.A.R)
That situation is rather fucked up

I can't think of any bests right now, but I can think of a worst.

Your Mom (Pokemon)
At first she just lets her 10 year old just wander around the world alone with nothing but a lv 5 pokemon to protect himself. And in later games, she also spends your money without asking. Yeah that's not so bad, but it would be nice if you could ask first, Mom!

Somehow I feel this is going to be a difficult thread as most Mum's in games die a tragic death, leaving the father behind.

I guess the best Mum in gaming would have to be my Mother in Fallout 3. Why you ask?

The worst by far is Dahlia Gillespie from Silent Hill 1. Semi-sacrificing her seven year old daughter with fire to impregnate her with some bullshit god or other. I'd like to see anyone beat that. Actually, scratch that. I really wouldn't.

Not to nitpick, but:

Jenova wasn't Sephiroth's actual mom. It was Lucrecia. And she was the reason Sephiroth was exposed to the Jenova cells. Also, he didn't go crazy until he received the revelation that he was an "experiment". So it's partly Lucrecia's fault, and partly his own personality "Who am I?" crisis.

So my vote for best goes to your mother in the Pokemon games. (didn't only one have a father present/mentioned?)

So other than her, the only in-game mothers I can think of are Hanna Shepard (Shep's mom if you have the spacer background in Mass Effect,)Alma Wade (F.E.A.R. series), and that's it really that I can think of.

The Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald generation had a father, and he wasn't very good. He made you teach someone how to catch a Pokemon, and he battled you for the 5th gym badge. He wasn't easy either. >_>
