Best and worst portrayal of romance you have seen in a game

The love between the player and Arcade Gannon in Fallout New Vegas...but thats mostly in my mind lol.

As for the worst, I have to say the "romance" between Alyx Vance and Gordon Freeman. I mean her father hints about it, Alyx hints about it...we all know it...but Valve will never ever EVER give it to us. I mean I would love it if they had them as a real couple..except killing aliens and freeing the human race, but Valve is to shallow for that.

On the other hand, the clear romance between Dom and Marcus was executed really well.

Is it okay if I admit FF10's romance annoyed me? I just found the whole thing a little cheezy to say the least. I much preferred the romance development in all the games prior to 10

I agree with this. 10's was one of the worst FF romances ever.

Yeah that pretty much ruined Gears of War 2 for me, Doms never ending bitching. He was certainly a badass in 1 though.

In Kingdom Hearts did anyone else notice that Sora seemed more interested in finding Riku rather than Kairi? I'm not saying that there's necessarily anything there...but yeah...he always mentioned Riku before Kairi, if he mentioned Kairi at all. And the ending of KH2...well...I'll just say that sounded like a sappy romance novel to me. *shrug* But whatever, Sora's young, he's probably confused. XD

Anyways, best to me was Thane and FemShep.

Worst: Tifa and Cloud. I just didn't see it. Course I find Tifa annoying in general so I'm biased.

Worst would be either romancing Zevran in Dragon Age, its kinda like "hey I like sexual innuendo's... me too! Let's bone."

The above I would say if not the best, is one of the best.

Do Zevran's romance without sleeping with him and focus more on helping him to figure out who he is and what he wants. The final talk you have with him before Denerim is one of the most heartwarming things I have ever heard in a video game. It's a real shame that so few people really tried to get to know Zevran and just assumed you could only jump his bones (which I guess is fun too?)

The worst I've seen: Force Unleashed. Really kinda came out of nowhere for me, they didn't have a lot of screen time together..

I'm surprised the Prince and Farah hasn't turned up yet. I can't say it altogether appealed to me, but it was the most believable and closest to affecting (at least closest to affecting me) I've probably seen.

I'm not sure if it would be fair to say worst, but both the romances in Uncharted 2 particularly rankled me. If nothing else they seemed very artificial, essentially a very cynical application of convention.

Worst for me is easily Baten Kaitos, just tacked in at the end of a 50 hour story driven game and it seems the only reason is that they are the main characters in a jrpg. Nothing really stands out as the best for me, maybe because games don't have enough time to show the ups and downs that make a relationship more meaningful and believable. Some are good but nothing stands out as a favorite.

Honestly I don't think I've played a game that's shown romance as well as a film or a book...not saying I haven't seen attempts at portraying it that weren't alright, but posting anything from my gaming career and holding it up as "SUCH A SUBTLE AND HEARTWARMING DISPLAY OF ROMANCE!" would probably make the RPG buffs beat me up and take my lunch money.

Worst: Final Fantasy 8. Worst game of the series and painfully awful romance. "Eyes on Me" made my skin crawl. Every copy of that game should be thrown in a landfill.
