Yeah that's a tough call to make. My personal favorite is Kannazuki No Miko, but it lacks a wider (even though I should be the last person to be a fan of it, I listen to fucking Death Metal) appeal, so I wouldn't say it's the best ever. Mobile Suit Gundam if I had to pick, for basically inventing the real robot genre and creating a kickass metaseries that is still relevant. Thanks Amuro Ray. You may have been a whiney little ***** who needed to have the fail slapped out of him at least once, but at least you're not as bad as most other anime heroes ever. Also, fuck Zeon, I don't care what the fanboys say, cheap ripoffs of the Nazis will never be as good villains as the real thing, and the Federation looks cooler anyway. Also, a life sized Gundam statue. Gundam wins forever.

SLAYERS. It has 5 series & gawd knows how many movies & OAVs. I saw it in the mid 90s. Despite how suprisingly awesome the dub is, they won't put it on TV because Lina is a "bad rolemodel" & some of the characters dress provocatively.

Its got everything you could ask for from a anime <3
This, although I am partial to Excel Saga just for its sheer randomness.

I don't have the old anime experience of some people, but I have watched a bit of Pokemon, and the 1st and 2nd season of Digimon. I liked them both, I don't really consider them anime, more kid stuff.

For adult anime's I've watched Naruto, Inuyasha, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, Code Geass, and much of S-Cry-Ed. I've also watched He is My Master, Trigun, Read or Die, and Van Hellsing. Of them, I consider Naruto to be the best. It has the deepest plot, MUCH more human characters, and has the most realistic super-powers. I don't like Shippuden as much, and the filler was a tad disappointing, but of the anime listed here, I consider it the best.

However, let us forget the edited TV movies of the two series never happened. Stripped down with new dubs by D-list voice actors.
Or remain ignorant of them altogether I guess? Just out of curiosity what did they to, take the series and condense it into a 90 minute movie or something?

I like Ranma 1/2 myself. It's just well balanced, funny but not overtly so, and characters you care enough about to remember all their names ever though there's tons of them.
yay someone else who knows that anime!

Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are probably among my favorite
...
though I've watched less than 10 series of anime in total, 6 of them, I really can't stand
If you liked Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, you'll love Baccano. It's up on Hulu for free, so check it out. First episode is going to seem confusing, but push forward, it's only 16 episodes.
I've seen the opening of that anime recently and the only thing I could think of was Snatch...
so I went and watched snatch

but sure, I'll check it out when I have some time in my hands

After careful deliberation, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing 0 is the winner for "best anime ever."

Pretty much. The central storyline (Laughing Man and Individual 11) were trimmed to a couple hours, and all the stand alone episodes were left out. Plus some stuff they rewrote to cover up the plot holes they created by trimming.[/quote]

Ohhhhhh. Yea, I saw those on DVD at Best Buy once when I was looking for the series on DVD, I'm glad I didn't buy them now.
