Yeah one of these threads. My vote is to Steve Digiorgio, master of fretless bass.

Also Dave Ellefson

Arif Mirabdolbaghi from protest the hero would be my vote. He may not be the best bassist out there right now, but seeing as he is only in his early twenties and already as good as he is, its only a matter of time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96Gq0S1m44s&feature=related gets crazy around the min mark.

I'll just put my favorite bass players:
-Justin Chancellor of Tool
-Steve DiGiorgio(mentioned at top)
-John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin
-Victor Wooten
-James Jamerson of Motown Records
(I want to give him an honorable mention, since his bass-lines shaped the style of Motown, who shaped the history of popular music)
-Cliff Burton of Metallica
-Geddy Lee of Rush
-Orion of Behemoth
-Peter Iwers of In Flames
-Jaco Pastorius
-Micheal Manring
-Mike Dirnt of Green Day

I'm done for now...lol

Geddy Lee, the bassist from Rush.
My friend has covered almost every Rush song ever since he's a huge Rush fan. He plays faster than Geddy and he's still worse than Arif Mirabdolbaghi from Protest The Hero.
