Which, in your opinion, is the best Batman movie.

If possible, please include your opinion of the best Batman role, best Joker/other major antagonist and other major characters that really made the movie better for you.

EDIT: Mine is the dark Knight, just for a heads up.

Not the Dark Knight, but Gotham Knight.

I'm not even that much of an anime fan, but that one pretty much nailed it when it comes to the grim spirit of the bat. By definition all the cartoon movies are better than the real life ones anyway. Batman & Mr. Freeze - SubZero is a good example of how to do it right as well.

Kevin Conroy has been the perfect Batman for me ever since I was a kid. The real life movies will never come close to giving me the same thrill as the animated series.

The Dark Knight can suck it, I actually really liked it as a movie, but the Batman in it is just awful. Sure the Joker is great, but Batman shouldn't have to TRY and be badass by making his voice sound like a gravel grinder.

You're going to get a lot of Dark Knights in here...

Although that would probably be my opinion, I have to give a lot of credit to Under the Red Hood. Fantastic action, great plot from a classic storyline. Although the Joker doesn't quite do it for me voice wise in the film (and I hate not liking John DiMaggio) he does have some wonderfully psychotic scenes.

The Dark Knight. It captured the dark feeling of Gotham, had a villain that drove Bruce Wayne and Batman to the edge, had top notch performances from all involved, and left me wanting more.

After that, it goes Batman Begins, Batman (1989), Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman (Adam West), and Batman and Robin.

Depends. If you are talking about story and atmosphere, than Batman Returns.

If you are talking about most enjoyably silly, then I'd say the 60's one. I don't see why Batman and Robin is so maligned, personally, if you view it as the 90's version of the 60's one, not of the Burton films.

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were decent enough movies, but IMHO, over-rated.

I instantly thought of Batman Forever.

Dark Knight is the best movie of Batman movies, but Forever is the best Batman movie.

The Dark Knight is the best movie for me, closely followed by Batman Begins. Batman (1989) is in the 3rd place, but still quite a bit behind Begins. Batman Returns takes 4th place.

Keaton = Best Batman
Bale = Best Bruce
Both Nicholson and Ledger are good, but IMO Ledger = Best Joker
Adam West = best comedy batman.
George clooney = guy in bat costume.

Have to go with Mask of the Phantasm. Really an excellent look into Batman before he was Batman. But, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker comes in second for me, mostly because of an -excellent- performance from Mark Hamill as the Joker. Now, Hamill played Mr.J in Phantasm too, but in RotJ he really is a force of menace and danger.

Batman Returns.

I love Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, I love the grisly aesthetic, I love the grotesquery of the Penguin, and I love Christopher Walken full stop.

As for my favourite characters:

Kevin Conroy will always be Batman to me, just as Mark Hamill will always be the Joker. They were pretty much literally the voice of my childhood.

I actually don't rate Begins or The Dark Knight very highly I have to say. My first ever batman film was Forever, then Batman and Robin, Batman Returns and Batman (1989). I still have a real soft spot for Forever, Returns and the 1989 film, although I rewatched B&R recently and my God is that movie terrible.

Mask of the Phantasm. Its an animated movie, but for me sums up the character better than any other Batman movie.

Batman Returns. Now, to be honest, it's a pretty close call. I loved The Dark Knight. I loved Burtons original Batman. I also loved Mask of the Phantasm and the show with Adam West. But Returns had the best atmosphere, the best set design, the best villains and, most importantly, Christopher Walken.

This. Burton really nailed the atmosphere in Returns. Danny DeVito and Christopher Walken were fantastic in it. Honorable mentions: Mask of the Phantasm and The Dark Knight.
