If you are a fan of video game music then you must hear this song. Not only is it the best background music of any game ever, but it is a masterpiece in its own right.

Surprised to not see it mentioned yet: shadow of the colossus. The only game music ever to give me misty eyes. And... bejeweled twist. Best chill out tunes ever.

Chrono Trigger and the Mega Man series. I still rock the looping title theme from Mega Man 3 when I want to blast music from my car. Chrono Trigger just... damn. Probably the best music of any video game ever.

Honorable mention to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 if only for the accordion track when you play Emerald Hill Zone in VS mode.

Predictably, I cannot decide on a 'best', but I do like...

Dark Souls, especially Sif's fight music (added a lot to the tone of the battle) and Gwyn's theme (same).

The Armored Core series. Older ones tend to be a bit more techno, 4 and fA a bit more operatic. ACV's were ok, but I do like the older ones.

Phoenix Wright, namely Cornered. It was practically the reason I got the game in the first place.

Monster Hunter, good music in general, but the theme is ridiculously uplifting.

Metal Gear Rising - haven't actually played tha game yet, but I listen to all the boss themes (except Sundowner, sorry) routinely. Same to a lesser extent with Sonic Generations, except that I'll never play Sonic Generations.

The Ar Tonelico games have amazing BGMs but since the series is centered around music its no surprise.
Yup they are great games music wise with some amazing songs not just BGM, my other vote would go to Persona 4 Arena it just fits the game perfectly and gets you hype without going overboard.

The other 3 I always remember are FFVII, Street Fighter 2 and Valkyria Chronicles all of these were excellent for BGM imo and very memorable.

Welp, another opportunity to reinject Timesplitters into our conscious minds! I'll post a great BGM from each game chronoligically!

Cheesy for a "horror level", but TS1 was very light-hearted. I think it's epic and suits the level's pace.

If only they made the bosses more interesting in Timesplitters...

Graeme Norgate (the composer) said this track was one of his favourites. Please listen to the end, if you can. It doesn't repeat like Notre Dame's boss music.

One winged angel final fantasy 7, huuuuuuuuge

Big blue theme smash bros melee, I used to play the stage just for the theme

Tony hawks 2

pokemon champions themes (except cynthis and iris, not so much a fan of those)

if I can think of any more, I'll add them here!

Hotline Miami has easily the best soundtrack I've ever come across in a game.

Kind of surprised that no one else has mentioned it yet.

Scotland the Brave is a good pick. I'd argue Wild West is better in TS2 because it has a certain sense of epic to it.

I'm staying with MediEvil Resurrection as my favorite, though.

Doom and Pokemon gen 1.
Supposedly the guys at ID Software listened to heavy metal at full blast almost nonstop while they were making doom.

How to portray elements of tragedy in a battle song. If only I could play Tsubaki/she wasn't low tier. She sounds easy to play in theory because all her moves have continuations to catch people out and she has like 10 specials but gah why is Install a thing?!
No excuse. NO EXCUSE I SAY.

OT: Probably Metal Gear Solid, but that could just be the nostalgia talking. Idek.

Generally don't pay much attention to background music, but Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within has some awesome sound tracks. Guess I'm a bit biased since it features at lot of drums, bass and electric guitar.

Out of many... let's see.

I can't even play this game.

and if you include rearranged musics, Touhou will take my vote.

Anything from Koei, spcially from their Warriors series.

The Armord Core series. Especially the PSX era ones.

The PSX ghost in the shell game which got something of a release an actual album.

Gundam: Battle assault 1, and 2.

The Tenchu series.

Max Anarchy/Anarchy reigns.

The SSX games.

NBA Jam On fire edition.

It's kinda cheating since they're actual radio type songs, but GTA, and Saints Row in general. :p

The Sims weirdly enough. <.< Kinda cheating, too, since lately their music is based on real music.

That's about all that comes to mind, and so it's prolly my most recommended.

I remember a track on the motorcycle level of the Streets of Rage Remake V4.0 that mixed one of the tracks from Streets of Rage 2 with Hyperspeed by Prodigy. Sick, blood.

You may as well ask what my favorite breath of air I've taken, anyway here goes nothing:

Zelda series
Pokemon series
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
Metroid series
Halo series
Super Smash Bros. since it takes the best Nintendo music and puts it all in one game.
Golden Sun and Golden Sun: Lost Age on the GBA
Paper Mario series
God of War series
Kirby Series
Pikmin and Pikmin 2
Animal Crossing on the Gamecube had such relaxing music.

There are more I'm sure, but most of these entries probably have at least 10 amazing songs(usually much more.)
