What's the best bonus mode in a game?

E.g. a part of the game added in as an "arcade"-ish component, not part of the singleplayer or multiplayer experience.

E.G. Races in mirror's edge, Spec Ops. in MW2 or Forge in Halo 3.

Technically those can be counted as a single-player/multiplayer experience as well. :p No getting around that but if you mean non-story modes then I'd have to say the Versus mode in the L4D games.

Nothing beats pouncing on Survivors as a Hunter and ripping their spleen's out.

Timed fights in Shadow of the Colossus.

Challenge maps in Batman Arkham Asylum

That's all I can think of right now.

Does God Mode count? If so then GTA:SA, excepting explosions and police choppers. Flying tanks ftw.

Failing that, this:

The free rolling mode in Katamari Forever was a lot of fun. Just roll as long as you want. Exactly what I always wanted in a Katamari game.

Oh and as mentioned, the Shadow of the Colossus timed battles were a lot of fun, as was the hard mode.

Counter-Operative from Perfect Dark I love the concept of having my friend be a henchman while I am the secret agent. No games since has been able to quite catch that feeling, to my knowledge.

I also love Terrorist Hunt from Rainbow Six Vegas. It gets pretty intense and even scary if you are playing alone, especially since the spawning is semi-random meaning you know where enemies will spawn but you do not always know in what numbers or with what weapons.

Mercenaries in the Resident Evil series. Made even better by RE5 which introduced co-op mercenaries. And Barry Burton as playable.

It's just when you have a certain amount of time to kill a colossus.

In Tatsunoko VS Capcom the kept the Hell Shooter TvC ultimate All-Shooters.

its a blast, kinda gets boring after a while but the 4 characters it lets you use for it mixes up the action.+

Nazi Zombies in COD WAW, especially after they released some maps for it. That was the only thing that kept me going back to that game.

The Japanese verison has better bonuses modes. Sadly cut do to licenses issues and gamers hate for mini games

Too bad too.

I really wanted to play the Chin-Li and the Roll Mini Games.
