So Collector's Editions have become a pretty big thing lately in gaming, with even first entries into series recieving Collector's/Limited Editions. But who does it best, and what is the best one you've gotten?

I'd say that Blizzard consistently have the best CE's around. They're rarely over-priced, come with nice bonuses, look good and they make enough of them to go around to people who really want them.

Honorable Mention: Bungie. The Halo 3 and Reach CE's were awesome, if a bit expensive.

Dishonorable Mention: Gearbox. Their CEs are almost always bad and overpriced (*coughDNFcough*, and the one good one they've made (Borderlands 2) they didn't make nearly enough of to satisfy demand.

The worst thought? Pretty much anything by EA - they might as well be called the "Buy this edition or we're not giving you the whole game" Edition - see BF3/DS3/ME3 for a good example.

I will catch at least some flak, but that Tarot/Playing card deck that Dishonored had was bitchin'.

I really like the high frequency blade lamp that came with Metal Gear Rising. But it was all overpriced pretty much.

Yeah I second this.
I saw the Two Best Friends unboxing of this, and it looks sick.
If I had the money and time, and knew about the game I would have gotten it.

I really liked the Fallout New Vegas collectors:

Making of DVD was cool, I always love those with games, the deck of cards was awesome and I have a got a lot of use from it and I really enjoyed the full size graphic novel, none of this part 1 of a comic small notebook sized BS.

Plus, my Grandfather, who passed away just over a year ago now, he was a big card player. So when we all gave a little something to him to be buried with, I went for the Tops poker chip, I think he would have really liked that. It was something different from flowers and showed I put some thought into what I gave him, it being something that connects with me, to him.

I haven't really bought that many and these days I don't have as much disposable income as I used to so I would have to really want one before I parted with money for it, but I still have to go with the Bioshock 2 Collectors Edition. I still haven't got round to listening to the record (not having a record player may have something to with it) but the 2nd soundtrack, hefty artbook and Rapture posters still made it worth it.

I've heard that the Bioshock 2 one was good, with the UV posters and real vinyl soundtrack.

But the one I like is the Deus Ex: Human Revolution one. The art book was ok, the documentary was so-so but the box art itself is awesome and the action figure is really detailed.

i wasn't to attached to the game itself.

But the fallout 3 Collectors edition was pretty rad. Bobble head is with to this day.

The warhammer mmo, Age of Reckoning.

10$ extra

came with a hard bound multi issue comic.

A 200 page art book, the sort that at most book stores costs upwards of 40-60%

A pewter miniature that would cost at least 10$ to buy a similar one.

Several in game items and such.

For me the fact you got all this, for 10$ extra was amazing. It's relativly little more to spend, and some great objects that are worth WAY more then you pay on average.

I know that some collectors editions cost 150$ and give you crazy amounts of stuff, but the simple fact it requires you to spend that much sort of lessens the value it is presenting you with to me.

Halo Reach collectors (the £50 one) is probs the best I've seen, that little book you got with all the news slips and background info was just amazingly good. Show'd so much attention to detail you rarely see elsewhere, I'm looking at you Fable 3.

The Alan wake one. it was only £10 more and featured a full limited book that expanded on the games story. thats what i want for being a fan not a figurine or art book, they are meaningless. it also included a amazing soundtrack (CD) and a bonus disc with exclusive making of features (which i love) and video commentary for the whole game. talk about caring about your fans. Alan wake is still in my opinion the only good exclusive Microsoft still has. Remedy are a great developer, under looked unfortunately. bring on alan wake 2.

The Witcher 2 Collector's Edition is pretty awesome. I love the Dice Poker bag and dice that was included with it and I also loved the music that was included as well.

I do like Star Wars: The Old Republice CE as well. The Malgus statue is pretty cool and I do enjoy the soundtrack that came with it.

I love the Guild Wars 2 CE too. The Charr statue is awesome and again I enjoyed the music. I also love the painting that came with it.

Only CE I didn't like was the Skyrim CE. I like the statue and everything but I hated how no music came with it. It should be a rule that if a company is going to make a CE that they need to include a soundtrack as well.

The next CE that I have pre-ordered is the Bioshock Infinite Ultimate Song Bird Edition. I am running out of shelf space to put the statues though.

Read the OP, and see some awesome ones. I myself have never owned a collector's edition, so my contribution to this thread is that thread. I did like the Modern Warfare 2 collection when it came out. Working night vision goggles? Do want.

My favorite one would be Catherine's, I wish it came in different sizes so I could wear it as something other than oversized PJ's but I still love it. Also MGR's lamp. Normally I wouldn't of gotten something that expensive but I had a bad week and needed some shopping therapy and I love it.

I wish more games had creative editions like that rather than a figure and an artbook.

I think it looks pretty awesome. I am hoping that they also include a soundtrack with it as well. The Songbird statue looks awesome.

what about the CE without the songbird? not every CE has the songbird included.

At this point, Balls of Steel is a pretty good price and what's best about BoS is that a majority of what you get with it is physical stuff. The main draw for me is the comic that comes with it but since you can grab it for roughly $50 now online it seems like a really great bundle. Buying it on day 1, I can see why some people felt burned but the fact that everything you get with it is physical stuff makes it really appealing to people like me who have a hard time buying intangible things...like the many, many DLC bundles that are DLC heavy.

My all-time favorite CE bundles though were the two for Bethesda's Fallout games, 3 and New Vegas. I really need to find a new place to set up my pip-boy bobblehead and lunchbox but that's really all I have to say against that. The comic in New Vegas was the main draw for me but I was a bit disappointed by the length. Overall though I really liked the casino motif and was very pleased with the deck of cards it came with.
