Intro to Final Fantasy VIII

The Landing in Final Fantasy VIII (both where they arrive, and where they leave)

The battlescenes between the two Garden forces in Final Fantasy VIII

The attack on Midgar in Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus.

NO cutscenes beat those. Nothing even comes closs as far as I'm concerned. Many games have had the chance, and all have failed.

Aw man, there's just too many awesome cutscenes to choose from. Well, I'll just pick a few off the top of my head:

Civilization V has one of the best introductions I have ever seen. It's an acknowledgment of humanity's triumphs and hardships and the desire to shape a better world. As a college graduate with a History major, I find it summarizes perfectly my fascination with the subject:

For nostalgia's sake, Tie Fighter has awesome cutscenes. It really puts you in the proper mindset of fighting for the Empire. Enemies like the Rebel Alliance, pirates and rogue admirals like Harkov and Zaarin are agents of anarchy and chaos. In fighting them, you strive to restore peace and order to the galaxy.

Finally, Red Alert 2's cutscenes are a guilty pleasure for me. The delightfully hammy acting fits perfectly with the absurdly awesome story, yet doesn't become obnoxious like Red Alert 3. It's the video game equivalent of Power Rangers or a Godzilla movie, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My clear second choice. I think the thing that tips me towards the other is the music. The mission 8 scene has a good rendition of "Devils Never Cry," but 14 has that unique theme.

Any Blizzard cutscene from any of their games. I really wish they'd forego the live action movie for a full CG one. Maybe one day I'll get to see it.

Failing Blizzard, Oddworld Inhabitants make some gloriously dark cinematics. I think they even outdo Blizzard on their pre-WoW cinematics. Best cutscene ever: Diablo 2 intro.

Soul Reaver intro
Warcraft 3 scene when Grom Hellscream and Thrall fights the demon wossname.
Starcraft 1 scene finale of the Protoss.
FF8 ending.
Diablo 2 original ending.
Diablo 2 scene when bhaal is released
Diablo 2 scene when diablo, bhaal and mephisto are gathered.
The whispered world finale (was quite emotional actually)

I'm noticing a distinct pattern. Man diablo 2 is kickass.

Devil May Cry 1 had some kickass cutscenes. Of note, I'm thinking of Dante having a hot chick throw a sword through his guts impaling him to a wall, before launching a motorbike at him. That and the final cutscene that is Mundis' downfall.
Other than DMC, Kingdom hearts had some pretty cool cutscenes, and Final Fantasy kinda goes without saying...

Otherwise? In terms of graphics and polish, Final Fantasy XIII. All of it.

Dragon Age: Origins. Leading the amassed army against the besieged Denerim.

Most of Diablo II's cutscene's.

The Dawn of War games have fantastic opening cutscenes.

After the opening scene of DoW I was like "holy sh*t!!!", great way to start a game.
Also Halo Wars had awesome cutscenes, probably the best thing about that game. :S

PSOne - Oddworld games
PS2 - Area 51 and Black
PS3 - Enslaved and the Uncharted's
Xbox - Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath
Xbox 360 - No particularly memorable cutscenes actually... Halo Wars looked pretty impressive though I guess.
PC - StarCraft 2 I think, though I would also say I always loved the Command & Conquer cutscenes.

If only they would make a C&C3. *continues to remain oblivious to the fact that EA killed his favorite RTS series with shitty games*

As for non-Blizzard games, Lost Odyssey had outstanding moments. Play the introduction. That's all you need to get hooked in.
