Since I can't think of any dogs that are much use as companions or playable characters, I'm going to go with Muttface, in lamplight caverns in Fallout 3. Just because he's called Muttface and that makes me smile.

I thought Fable 2 did a great job of characterizing the dog. My dog was named Valen.

Fable 2 Dog (mine was called sparky) Sparky could do tricks, find diamonds with his nose and maul bandits. He made such an impression i choose to revive him in an instant, he singlehandly was worth 1,000,000 gold and the lives of countless NPCs

None of the "real" dogs in a game endeared themselves to me.
