It has to be a freeware game called IJI, honestly I think that it's better then Duke Nuckem forever in every way.

If you haven't tried it yet, PLAY IT NOW! It's a blockbuster like no other, you will not be sorry.

I got Castle Crashers for $10 when it was on sale (normally $12). Best played with 4 people though.

League of Legends!Seriously best effin' downloadable free game ever. Also every micro transaction you make lasts nearly forever and there's no way to get bored with it thanks to the champion cycles.

Recettear. An indie JRPG. Primarily about running an item shop, but the dungeon adventurey parts of it are great too.

I also agree with the previous recommendations of Beat Hazard (especially now the Ultra DLC is out) and Flower.

League of Legends (PC) - its Dota, with a lot of the annoying things ripped out, like denying. Free to play. Has a community that shows that though.

Terraria (PC) - People say its 2D MineCraft. If that deters you, slap yourself in the face. It has a focus more on exploration rather than building. Has Magic, special weapons, is a blast to play with friends (youll need some sort of program like Hamachi to run it in Multiplayer though), and boss fights. Very fun and engaging.

Castle Crashers (X360) - A fantastic side scroller action game, presented in 2.5D. Visuals are gorgeous, gameplay is fun, and the game is a laugh and a half. Easily surpasses a lot of games that charge the full $60 price tag.

Aside from those three, check out the XBL Arcade. This service doesnt get nearly enough credit as it should, as it is easily a great source of a lot of great games. Are you a fan of Sonic before he went spiraling out of control? They got you covered. Games like Limbo, Braid, DeathSpank, Section 8 Prejudice (or whatever its called). And plenty more. Check it out sometime.

As you already mentioned Scott Pilgrim, I dont need to. That game was freaking amazing. The soundtrack alone was well worth it.

So...."Best Game"? I don't know why console players have had this distinction.

Killing Floor, if you want non-retail.

Dominions 3 Demo.

I believe you can download the game (For a fee) at the publisher's site too these days.

Limbo.

I could go on about how great this game is, and how terribly arty, disturbing and endearing it is, but...just go watch a review.

Then buy it.

^This. It's a freeware RPG that's easily better than a solid majority of the RPGs you have to pay for. Good art, above-average writing, and insanely good combat and music. It's here. [http://www.thespiritengine.com/tse2-download.php]

There's a free game called Notrium by indie developer Ville Mönkkönen which I have played the hell out of for a couple years. Although it's brutally difficult, I find it very fun. It's a top-down survival thing involving combining items, enduring harsh conditions, and getting killed a lot.

Here's a link if anyone's interested: http://www.instantkingdom.com/notrium/
