With the release of Skyrim it seems everyone is talking about dragons once more. So I ask, Escapist, what is the best dragon in gaming?
For me I got to go with the classic Ridley from Metriod. He is without a doubt one of the most iconic video game bosses of all time. And unlike Skyrim dragons, you can't keep this one down. He will keep coming back to battle Samus for the rest of her life.

Can't say that many have stood out for me, but I'd definitely have to give a thumbs up to the Gaping Dragon from Dark Souls. That thing has the Vagina Dentata for its body. Truly a Gnarly piece of Imagery.

Hmmm... Skyrim vs. Dragon Age vs. WoW... Tough choice.

I'll give it to Skyrim, with Malygos from WoW taking second.

No mention of Bahamut? Seriously? For shame gamers, for shame.

Classic design, uber powerful, and pretty much the first thing that comes to mind when you pair 'gaming' and 'dragon' together in the same sentence.

Tiamat beats your Bahamut any day of the week.

I'd say Shinryu over Bahamut personally. Or the Kaiser Dragon from the Breath of Fire series.

Tiamat can't blow up the fucking moon/ make it into its own personal death star.

Ah but Tiamat has AC 50 and 906 HP. She can just avoid the Death star blast.

Paarthurnax. My favorite character in Skyrim. My favorite dragon ever...ever. Something about the way he speaks...I wish he had a larger role in the story.

Firkraag. I imagine most if not all players encounter him fairly early in Baldur's Gate 2 considering he's part of one of the easiest to find quests near the start of the game, and pretty much everyone who's encountered him will have thought 'Oh he can't be that tough' and tried to kill him... Ah, the glorious slaughter than ensues as players learn why Dragons are so feared in the DnD setting.

And then the satisfaction you get when you come back later and kick the smug assholes butt is all the better. Seriously, not only was he a powerful red Dragon but he was a jerk about it too, who doesn't want to wipe the floor with his stupid face? Helps that he also has the most powerful sword on the entire game in his possession, making it even more worthwhile and more rewarding when finally he dies.

Then you skin him and make armour out of his scales just as one final spit on his ugly corpse. Stupid Dragon!

Charizard, despite the fact he was never categorized as a dragon type.
Charizard made half of a generation buy Pokemon Red. Well, maybe not an entire half but I know I got my copy because Dragons are freaking awesome.

Obviously it's Spyro.
I hate how they 'updated' the look of Spyro for Skylanders. Although I do like the way Whirlwind looks (or whatever the name of the Target Exclusive one is)

My favorite dragon in gaming is probably one of the many Bahamut from the Final Fantasy games. I can narrow it down to a PSX Bahamut.

While the Final Fantasy VIII Bahamut is my favorite in terms of design, I loved how Bahamut was used in Final Fantasy IX...

...As a Kaiju fighting against a sentient Castle! Well, maybe not a Kaiju proper but still!
