Best Endings

Endings in a game (or movie) that really made you think, laugh, sad, etc.

For serious endings, I'd go with In Water from Silent Hill 2. It's just such a fitting ending, and it hits me like a brick whenever I see it.

For comical, I'd go with Banjo-Tooie. Just generally funny and wraps things up nicely.

Mass Effect 1 ending sequence, from Ilos onward. I thought, and still think it was one of the most epic endings to any game.

For films, despite it being a subpar horror, the ending of The Mist was astounding.

Midday Moon (Hisui's True Ending) and DREAMS OF SUNSHINE[footnote]Yes, it's actually written in all caps like that, to distinguish it from Dreams of Sunshine (Hisui's Good Ending).[/footnote] (Kohaku's True Ending) from <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.128851-TYPE-MOON-reviews-Tsukihime>Tsukihime were phenomenal. The former stood out among all the game's endings as a true "holy shit" moment of dawning realization and incredible bittersweetness, and I can't describe the latter without spoiling it.

Mizuki's endings in <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.135672-Neutral-Drow-reviews-A-Drug-That-Makes-You-Dream>A Drug That Makes You Dream made her route stand out even compared to Aeka's entire route (which was the best overall). Mizuki's unhappy ending was almost out-of-the-blue, but then you realize that it makes some sense...which just twists the knife of tragedy more. If her happy ending hadn't been almost indescribably heartwarming, I probably would have been crying for days in sadness (as opposed to just two days, in happiness).

In fact, <color=white>Makoto's ending in <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.163769-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Kanon>Kanon was probably a good indicator of what would have happened if Mizuki only had one ending. That route actually invoked something uncomfortably close to genuine grief.

And finally, for a less positive effect...Silent Siren (Hina's Sex Ending) from <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.148564>Little My Maid. One of the most infuriating things I've ever read. Not bad, per se, it just evoked quite a feeling of guilt, horror, and rage that I found somewhat uncomfortable.

The ending of Mass Effect 1 was awesome. The ending of Mass Effect 2 was much better if you chose the paragon ending. It was just too reminiscent of the ending of Return of the Jedi to not be awesome.

Mass Effect. The battle of the Citadel was extremely well-done.
I love how Sovereign dwarfs even the largest Citadel ship (Destiny Ascension) and then they show Sovereign in contrast with the Citadel itself. The final fight was fun. The fight on the way to that fight was almost as much fun.

The dark side ending for KOTOR 1 made me feel good. There are probally better ones, but I can't think of any at the moment.

Mass Effect(s), Bioshock(s). Both games of both trilogies have had great endings.

Only two endings in a game have made me cry. FF10, and shadow hearts 2. I think the main reason was because I was so into the games and they are rpgs so you play for so long that you feel like your in their world, or something like that.

You know what game had an epic ending? Assassins Creed 2. I seriously said "What the fuck?" at the EXACT same time as Desmond. As much as people seem to think otherwise, I don't mind Desmond as a character. He is a whiny turd, but so is Cloud, and people seem to call THAT game a masterpiece.

Also, the ending of Chocobo Racing. Shit made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

The Normandy is flying out of the collector base through a small tunnel with explosions right behind it, only to escape just before the whole thing blows. That's very Return of the Jedi. When you see all of the reapers looking out upon the galaxy, it MIGHT be reminiscent of the rebel fleet at the end of The Empire Strikes Back, but not much.

The prototagonist and one of his main antagonists strike a deal to get out of prison, they fool the warden, and the one they actually caught was pardoned anyway. Then, at the very end, the warden gets blown up by her own treacherous bomb.

I concur on Kanon. I felt like a little ***** watching that lol. And might I suggest the School Days game and anime as far as screwed up endings go.

As far as anime endings, I'll always remember Toppa Tengen Gurren Lagann for most rediculous over the top final battle LOL (but still awesome.)
