I've been thinking about the whole "games are art" thing, and I was wondering what my fellow escapists consider game art. Personally, my vote goes to either bioshock or silent hill two, both of which used interactivity in the best ways imaginable

I'm going with Crayon Physics Deluxe. For the literal route.

As a side note, I'm going with Banjo: Nuts and Bolts or any other game with heavy GAMEPLAY effecting customization. After all, what is art, if not expressing creativity?

The Path, simply because, unlike other games, it demands a personal interpretation from the player.

Jak and Daxter series

Just a perfectly smooth blend of story, character development, backgrounds, level design, back grounds, ect

Just a brilliant game.

Oh, so many, most of them adventure games though. Off the top of my head, The Syberia series, Grim Fandango, The Dig, The Dark Eye, Gabriel Knight 2 with its opera finale, from other genres Silent Hill 2, Fatal Frame 2, Portal, Tron 2.0, Homeworld...will probably think of double that number in 30 minutes.

depends how you class them as art, techniqally all games are an art in themselves, just matters how you look at them.

anyway, theres two many to list in the normall meaning for me,

heres a snipit of it.

eternal daugter
grim fandango
cave story
blue wish reserection
kamui
bg
planescape
persona 2:inocent sin.
Half life
ff series
system shock
ok ill stop now.

really my deffinition of art is kind of vauge though, just basically any good game is art in my view.

Jet Set Radio Future. The entire game is about creating art, though an illegal form of it.

I will give a quick specification of my post to these are games I see as works of art to be appreciated...

There have been hundreds of truly artistic masterpieces released in the 20ish years i've been gaming. Everyone will tout Team Ico stuff, or bioshock, silent hill 2, etc, but here are some you may not have heard of:

1. Shadow Run (1994) SPECIFICALLY for the Sega Genesis. This game feels like a precursor in gameplay to the open world sandbox titles of late. I have said in many a thread in these forums that if any game EVER deserved a new redux it would be this one.

2. Freelancer (2003) Great space exploration title on the PC. Game flew under the radar (no pun intended) but is really a fantastic exploration of a brilliantly crafted universe. As much fun to just fly around all the systems as it is to engage in the awesome combat or playing through the plot.

3. Shinning Force (1992) Also for the Sega Genesis one of the first squad based RPG's out there. Just great plot, great characters, and great art style; even on the old 16 bit platform. Climax studio's games in the early 90's all had a great, cartoon art style that really helped their visions come alive in a fantastical sense.

There aren't any more obscure ones that jump to my head right now, but those are 3 I don't think you'll hear much about.
