Shadow of the Colossus and Ico.

And Mother 3, of course.
[sub]But as much as I talk about it, who the hell didn't see that coming?[/sub]

First of all, I'll jump onto the bandwagon with all the people who said Shadow of the Colossus and Okami. Great games, both of them.

Second, even though the game (in terms of gameplay) was 'meh' for me (at best), from a purely artistic standpoint there was a lot of merit in Little Big Planet.

nobody said half life 2 yet? I expect I may be slightly flamed for stating something so obvious.
Because it's not really art. It's actually kinda bland, imo.

flOw, Flower, and Echochrome on the PSN. Very good games with brilliant visuals, and strange gameplay. "Linger in Shadows" is very arty, but it stretches the definition of "game". The Playstation Network has some really outside the box stuff. I mean did you watch "Shoot"?. Congrats Sony for being a little different.

I knew this would happen. No offence to you, I just have noticed a slight trend of "subtle flaming" on the escapist, in which one person aims to retort by undermining the opinion of one person with their own opinion.

for example, take any given halo hate thread:

"Why all the hate for halo 3?"

"I don't hate halo 3. In fact, I think the game's not even worth thinking about."

this sort of level headed, and more respectable approach to forum arguments has become prevalent in this society.

Again, this is not an attack on you, I just feel that's the current situation on this site.

*subtle flame goes here*

Yeah, but I've always had opinions about HL2. It was a quality game, but it won't blow any non-gamer people away just by having them watch you play it. They'll see you shoot a guy, and think...Ohh..another "violent vidya gaem".

By far the best that Ive ever seen is okami, the art just looks fantastic in my mind and its even a solid game to boot, now if only the ending didnt suck....... well hopefully the the sequel will al least attempt to make sense of the um "ending" we got in the last game.

Okami was beautiful.

MGS series. They all moved me in a way no game has moved me before. Except MGS2, because Raiden running about naked and finding out that everything you've done is a complete lie is not art.

The Path, simply because, unlike other games, it demands a personal interpretation from the player.
Speaking as someone who absolutely loved The Path... I'd be inclined to disagree on the basis that I wouldn't even call it a game as such. I'm not even entirely sure what I'd call it - an exploration tool with elements of... eh, alright, I'll go with game, anything else just sounds a bit pretentious.

So yeah, that.

Today I Die. This may or may not be qualified as it's a flash game, but it's nice enough.
Beyond that I'll just say the obvious Braid.

I know JRPG's are sort of an oppressed minority around these parts but I honestly can't award my nomination here to anything other than Final Fantasy IX. Before you say anything, yes I'm well aware that the FF-series has many flaws but FFIX seems to defy the stereotype in every field.

The story is one of the best I've ever heard (regardless of medium), the soundtrack is the best in the history of the series, all the characters are well-rounded and have a neat pile of character-development each, the skills system was simple but still required effort, the graphics were among the best the original Playstation ever produced and the game-world was huge, incredibly detailed and massively immersive.

Everything comes together to bring an experience unlike any other I've ever had.
While FFIX is my personal #1 of all time, the other Final Fantasy's aren't even part of my top 10. Final Fantasy IX stands head and shoulders over every other RPG I've ever played, even it's fellow series-mates, and is in my humble opinion the textbook-example of a game that can be considered art.

Halo. It's so well done on so many aspects that it becomes the best shooter ever.

Bayonetta also. The scenery and combat in that game are mind boggling.
