1) Light weight hunting rifle for long range
2) M4 or a Famas for when I have a hoarde coming at me
3) 2 small pistols for close range when on the run
4) A katana or 2 smaller blades for melee
and lastly
5) GOOD, durable, leather jacket, because your arms are always the most exposed.

Having recently picked up Left 4 Dead, I'm forced to change my opinion from a katana to the dual pistols. Ammo was the reason I didn't choose a fire arm to begin with, but with the pistols having infinite ammo, I can't afford to go with anything else. Of course it'd be nice if I had a katana as backup blade, just for show I guess, and when my trigger finger is getting all blistery.

also, if I was actually being realistic probably .... a single handed hammer, one side for smashing, other for grappling.

or a Halberd, axe, spear, and hook all in one

.50 Calibre Desert Eagle, knives, aaand...
Shotgun, why not :p

Less serious answer: Sword and/or Sledge Hammer. >D

nice to know i'm not the only gun-toting maniac in these parts, as has been said the shotgun is great, especially when they run for you and you can unleash every pellet at close range and obliterate with only one shot. But when times are desperate I choose a standard 9mm, simply because of the horror movie predictability.

Since im so unsure of how a GUN will actually pop up around my natural surroundings while im being chased by zombies.
personally - id just go with the base ball bat i use to chase off delinquents trying to steal my tyres.
but with a nail through it.

I know the lobo's been mentioned already, but shovels really are a good choice here. Semi-sharp edge for cutting, blunt side for bludgeoning... One good hit might do it for most zombies. Not to mention, you can dig with it, block attacks, throw things, use it to extend your reach or handle things you can't touch, use the end to mark things out in the dirt... and a sharpened one might even work as an axe or machete!

The possibilities are many.
