Lets see, in no particular order.

The Raid 2
Snowpiercer
The Lego Movie
Gone Girl
John Wick
Killers (Japanese/Indonesian film)
Edge of Tomorrow
The Babadook
Godzilla
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Fury
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Out of all this The Raid 2 is my favorite, followed by Snowpiercer and The Lego Movie.

I actually haven't seen Guardians yet. Neither did I see Days of Future's Past, but I'm not a fan of the X-men movies.

Alright, new Best Film for me: Boyhood. My first 10/10 of 2014.
Good to see someone else saw this film. The amount of discussion I've heard about it outside film critic circles has been pretty much zero, but it really is a stunning piece of work that more people should see.

My favourites are The Grand Budapest Hotel- Quirky and whimsical, I also love the cinematic style of it. It was like a winter post card, and the casting was spot on.

The Raid 2- While I didn't enjoy it as much as The Raid, it is still a cracking action flick.

I finally got to see Guardians yesterday.

It was one of those films that I wanted to like more than I actually liked it.

It's pretty funny, but other than that... eh. I have this nasty, cynical little suspicion that if it didn't have the Marvel name on the front it wouldn't have done nearly so well.
Maybe, but if the movie only coasted on its Marvel name, I doubt we would've seen as much praise for it is there has been.

The general consensus with Guardians seems to be that it's fun. It's not that great of an action movie, the visuals are okay, but nothing too extravagant, and the plot is just 'bad guy wants to take over the universe' #73975.

The one thing I think that sticks out with Guardians, and what most people gravitate toward, is its extremely likable personality. It's been a very long time since we've seen a blockbuster of this size with such lively characters. The Marvel movies themselves typically feel kinda bland and lacking any real character. Guardians is the first movie in this franchise (for me anyway) that feels like it was directed by one guy, and not by an entire commitee. I'm not surprised many people compare it to something like Ghostbusters, but it reminded me most of all of Tremors.
