Of the numeral games, IX has always held the biggest place in my heart, with VI and VII taking the second and third spots. However, my favorite game in the series of games as a whole is the original Final Fantasy Tactics, which was later improved in it's PSP remake The War of the Lions. I'm also a big fan of the fanservice extravaganza that is Dissidia which is fun and well-designed, albeit the plot makes little to no sense.

I've been a big admirer of the series for a long time. As game design goes, I don't think they're particularly stellar in any way, but I'm one for whom art direction is potentially the most important aspect of a game, and in that respect even the disputed FFXIII stands up well.

I'll just say that from what i have heard, the most popular and most recognized of the two are FF7 and FF10

Anyway, I say blashphemic because I know FF7 is by far the most popular and really rapid fans (the kind of fans that the rest of us fans don't like talking about) would burn me as a heretic for saying anything else.

i have to say that ff9 was the best in my opinion. great storyline, deep, almost teargerking... even for an emotionless rock like me. i was happy to pay to download this on my ps3... ppl laughed when they saw me playing a ps1 game on my ps3... good fun.

I'm surprised nobody definitively chose FFIV (FFII for the SNES). It's my absolute favorite, with VII being the runner up and III for the DS being the worst. Also, I didn't really like VIII, possibly because I only tried about 4 years ago after I played FFX and I thought that all the characters were really generic except Squall. (I really like Squall, but his supporting cast gets on my nerves.)

FF-9. Nine owns all of them.
Freya, she's my favorite.
Steiner is next. He's just awesome putting up with that he has to.

Maybe it's the nostalgia and remembering the "wow" factor around it, but ff7 is still my fav.

Ff9 straight after it, it's a shame so many are put off by its style.
Also remember it in particular for having the best normal battle theme (imo of course)
FFX, I liked it, don't care what anyone says about the laughing scene.

I've only played 7 but every other FF game I've played has left me disappointed. Those games being 10, 12, and 13. And in my opinion the online ones don't exist.

My top 3 are;

Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VIII

I loved everything about XI; the plot, characters, side-quests, minigames (Global Chocobo Treasure Hunt). I loved Vivi and, Steiner's strange father-son like relationship. Hell, Steiner and Vivi in general were great. I also loved how not everyone in the game was human. I never used Eiko but my preferred party set-up was Vivi, Amarant and, Freya (Zidane being obligatory but never dull)

I wish more FF titles would use non-human player characters. Why can you never play as a Moogle or a Chocobo or a Tonberry or a Cactar? Mog was one of my favorite characters in FFVI but Cefca and Ultros stole that show.

FFVIII was the one that was easiest to break. It was the closest to an actual cheat system as a Final Fantasy ever got. The characters were nothing special but that one feature was enough to win me over.

I would have to go with IX, VII, and V. And tbh V's gameplay is arguably the most fun of the series by many accounts.

Actually I'm surprised that others HAVE already said this based on some of the other threads I've seen here but I also love XIII the most and have played I,II,III,V,VII, and X. I think the Paradigm shift is one of the great recent advancements for RPGs and I hope it gets stolen. Liberally. I love the characters, story and dialogue for once and that hasn't happened since as far back as VII. I actually care about what happens to them and I apparently have found something in this game that does not officially (according to many) exist. Great exploration. Maybe it's not in it's classic form but it's still great.

Then again I bought this game new for $20 while many of it's critics paid $60 and it's hard to not love a game built this well when you got it for but twenty bucks!
