Best first person melee combat

I don't know if anyone has posted a similar thread, but i was wondering what people thought were some truly outstanding examples of good or bad first person melee combat.

Personally i found Condemned to be my most immersive and brutal melee experience, especially when teamed with outstanding atmosphere

as far as dislikes go i never enjoyed the elder scrolls games for this reason, as one of the main game mechanics felt dull and flimsy

Ive never played it, but Zeno Clash appears to have gotten the mechanic down very well.

Pretty much this! Dark Messiah of Might & Magic on the PC (Apparently the console port was terrible, never tried it myself though!).

Best overall though goes to Mount & Blade, the melee combat in that game is incredible. Mostly 3rd person however although there is a 1st person view available.

F.E.A.R. 2 It has slide-kicks, punches, jump kicks and roundhouse-kicks =P only problem is utilizing them with all the bullets flying

I was never a big fan of fist person games, but I'm really liking Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. I remember a decent, but hard game for the original Xbox too... Beatdown, Breakdown, something like that...

Pretty much going to second this, the demo I played from Dark Messiah was awesome, and Condemned 2 was simply amazing.

I must say that Zeno Clash looks pretty awesome too, weird but awesome:

Zeno Clash did a great job of making all the attacks feel powerful and effective. The HL2 mod Age of Chivalry also has some pretty excellent combat; it's very visceral and you really have to focus on where your enemy's weapon is if you don't want to get skewered. Worth checking out.

I maintain that no game has had a first-person melee combat that wouldn't have been better in 3rd person and will continue to do so until proven otherwise.

As for bad FP melee combat, just take Oblivion...
