So i'm not the only one who loves this game?! I thought this was one of the best games ever.but it got rated badly and the mod sites died because ubi didn't want to release the sdk. And i hate ubisoft since. But OT i would reccomend Oblivion and Mount and Blade. The graphics may not be the best but the combat and depth is really awesome!

I salute you for this sir. Though you always get one guy who takes out the minigun when you're not expecting it.
Someone tried to do that once, he got punched simultaneously by 3 other heavies who were waitng for a turn.

or that one guy who is a spy disguised as a heavy...or when half the server is heavy's trying to have organized matches and the other half of the server is doing nothing but get in the way, that always sucks

I actually really enjoyed Mirror's Edge. It allowed you to keep moving like you needed to, if you played smart. May not be the best, but the best I've played. :)

Dark Messiah. Good enough.
Agreed. Either that or Zeno Clash. Probably the only two melee games where you actually manually melee. That I know of anyway.

I'm not going to say best, but I enjoy Oblivion and Fallout 3 first person combat the most.

Well, since the only game I've ever played that has first person melee combat is L4D2, I'd have to go with L4D2.

I liked the melee in the Theif games. The early ones where you still had your sword so you could effectively fight off a couple of guards, not that poncy dagger thing.

And...

I liked Mirror's Edge. It flowed well. I found myself not even thinking about what I was doing, I just did it.

I maintain that no game has had a first-person melee combat that wouldn't have been better in 3rd person and will continue to do so until proven otherwise.

As for bad FP melee combat, just take Oblivion...
clearly you've never played the condemned games. nothing more intense then trying to fend back psychopath hobos with just an old pipe, unless you're fending back hobos that look like manniquens

I'm probably gonna get beat up for this, but I loved Halo 3's melee attack. It just felt more "weighty" compared to others. Like, if you're cornered and out of ammo, it's actually a fairly viable last-resort option, compared to a game like TF2 where it might take you as many as 3 solid melee hits to get the kill, by which time you're probably already chunks of bloody meat on the ground.
