Tetris

Quite frankly, unless your Halo or Final Fantasy can be enjoyed by practically all ages, has remained popular for over twenty years, has made a major cultural impact around the globe, has been used as a joke in practically every single popular TV comedy, and has been played by flipping lights on and off on a freaking building, don't even try to argue this one with me.

The only other games I can think of that come close to Tetris's level of greatness are Pac Man and the original Super Mario Bros.

Well to be realistic, there really isn't a best game, the same way theres no worst game either, you can disagree with me, I'll let you have your opinion, but please just understand what I'm talking about.

Chrono Cross wins this one, I think. Complex and interesting story, fun combat system, and it's only occasionally a pain in the ass to figure out where to go and what to do, which, considering it's a JRPG, is remarkable.

But OP I think Tales of Symphonia has been the best game I've played. Followed next by Half life. All of them

Shenmue 1 and 2. I loved those games. :]

The part in Shenmue 2 where you had to catch the leaves at Man Mo Temple was amazing.
Do you know how long it took me to do that? I don't remember... but it was a very long time, for some reason.

In my own personal opinion there can be no other option other than Halo simply because it has a great unvierse that heavily intrigued me to get into it and some great moments of gameplay that opened my eyes for the first time, some cool looking aliens, some lovely weapons and most importantly this charming nostalgia to it because of all the good memories I've had just sitting and playing Halo alone or with friends... Halo is the core of my gaming history really, I wasn't a gamer 'till I played Halo.

A list:

Best Role-playing Game - Final Fantasy 6
Best First-person Shooter - Close between Modern Warfare the first and Golden Eye.
Best Real-time Strategy - Dawn of War
Best MMORPG - World of Warcraft
Best Strategy Role-playing Game - Disgaea
I am sure there is more game genres, but that is all I got.

RPG is no contest, Baldur's Gate 2: Shadow of Amn, my first D&D game but I loved the challenge and I mastered it.

My FPS pick is CSS, after about 2 years I stopped sucking and started owning, now if only my computer didn't suck I'd own harder.

Currently in a bind on my MMO fix, haven't played WoW in a while (want to), it is a good game though and Blizzard does run a tight ship... on my other hand is Mabinogi USA from Nexon. Good game, bad company (which comes with free order of bad decisions.)

Personal Best game EVAR? Legend of the Dragoon for the PS1. No idea why, just love the game

Well its a matter of opinion really.

I personally think Tetris is the best freaking game ever, but again thats my opinion.
It's probably the most technically perfect game ever anyway.

My fave game fluctuates between Half Life 2 and Fallout 3, I can never make my mind up.
