Chex Quest.

The best thing to ever come in a box of cereal.
I second this. (Warms up Zorcher.) I rather liked the fact that even stuff most people won't see was changed (like the text for the chainsaw cheat). I know it was so the kiddies wouldn't see anything Doom related, but still, made a nice little bonus for people like me who see a Doom engine WAD file or EXE hack and proceed to dismember it giddily.

I hear tell that even now there's DM matches in Skulltag using Chex Quest resources.

I may get mocked for this, but I do love MapleStory
I love that game too, it's ridiculously addictive. Only sad thing is that it's only playable on PC's and the only PC I have currently in the house is a very slow old laptop. It'd be sweet if it ran on Macs, since I run a 24 inch.

Also: Robot Unicorn Attack. Best game ever.

Iter Vehemens ad Necem [http://ivan.sourceforge.net/download.html]

My personal favourite roguelike. Has a decent graphical interface too, in case you're like me and have real trouble digging ASCII. Cannot count the hours of pleasure I've gained from this. The level of detail is fantastic, and it's endlessly replayable.

Get ready to die a lot, though.

And I know we're only meant to list one, but I couldn't go without mentioning Soldat [http://www.soldat.pl/en/downloads].

Psychotic, insane 2D shooter where everyone has jetpacks. It has physics and realistic modes and all that if you're into that sort of thing, but first and foremost it's homicidal mayhem at its best.

It also has bots, which are useful if (like me) you live in the ass-end of nowhere and your internet connection doesn't believe in talking to strangers. Although I understand it has a very lively online community.

The Asylum: Psychiatric Clinic for Abused Cuddly Toys [http://jayisgames.com/archives/2007/11/the_asylum_has_a_new_patient.php]
This is probably the most fun you will ever have involving the psychology of stuffed animals.

I am dead serious. This game is incredible.

Isn't there a way to run programs that only work on windows on a mac? My boyfriend uses macs and I could have sworn he said something to that extent

N, or maybe the freeware PC port of Star Control 2, the Ur-Quan masters. Or battleships forever. They're all great.

You can if you run software like Bootcamp or Parallels which partition part of the harddrive for Windows OS and Mac OS. My friend ran into issues installing Bootcamp and I'm not partial to trying to run different OS's on the same HD now that I have so much on my HD. If I had to reformat then I might try it as then there is nothing of importance to lose.
