So the question stands, what is the best free to play game you have ever played it can be browser based flash games or indie games or anything.

Mine are Portal (which I got for free during the opening of steam on Mac)and Perfect World, an MMOPRG.

Battlefield Heroes. I have just started playing it in the last few days and it is the most fun I have had in a game for a while now.

The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall.

You need dosbox to run it but it's amazing, it shows Morrowind and Oblivion as the dumbed down knock-offs they are.

Quite a lot of things actually, 'Cos I pirate..I have a friend who bought me them..

I jest, he really did buy me quite a few games, nice guy.

But I guess it would be either; Star wars empire at war. Or Rome: Total War. :'D

Although

Battle For Wesnoth is good too..

A lot of nexon's games range from "Okay" to "Pretty Good". At the same time, nexon is a company of heartless bastards who won't dare talk to their community

some Hl: 2/cs:S mods are fantastic, but if you're more a DoTA guy, you should play LoL.

but the BEST F2P game I've EVER played is Quake Live, although you can pay to get better stuff.

the fancy pants adventure series, they released a demo for part 3, and well, it looks fantastic (for a flash game), also the Running Man game was fairly entertaining

I've got to go with dwarf fortress. It's hard as shit to get into, but once you do, it's easily months of fun. Also, it's insanely easy to mod, requires no coding anything, stuff is just sort of spelled out in text files the game reads from that you can freely edit.

Alien Swarm I would say.

Though "Warning Forever" and it's semi-sequel "Battleships Forever" are both worth a look at.

Would have to be League of Legends which I got or the PC. Is just a download to a lot of fun. Shit community, can make the xbox community look pleasent sometimes, but a fun game all the same.

If difficulty is your thing, I Wanna Be The Guy beats everything.

Its just so satisfying when you finally beat it.

Cave Story. Hella fun, and all done by one guy.

EDIT:

No, not at all. I spent weeks beating that game. When it was all over, I got hit by the fruit. You know which one. I have since been unable to beat The Guy again, and my almost-win haunts me to this day.

Clonk Endeavour. Great cross between Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft. You can do much more stuff than is Minecraft while its still fun and simple unlike Dwarf Fortress. Also it is easily modable and open-source.

Dwarf Fortress of course, though I'm also pretty fond of Cave Story and Spelunky.

UFO: The Two Sides and UFO: Alien Invasion as well, both in-progress X-Com remakes one 3D but not featuring destructible environments while the other is classic 2D but does but however is also in a less complete state right now. Both solid!
