Sorry if this has been posted before, I could not find a current thread on the matter,
So here's the deal Escapist, I'm bored...and poor. I need something to keep my mind occupied, but only have ~$10 to spend. What is the best game you guys can think of? (old, new or indie, doesn't really matter, just want some bang for my buck)I'm open to suggestions from Steam, XBLA or PSN so... What should I play?

The Binding of Isaac (still under $10 if you include its DLC) should last you a long time.

You can also try TF2 and Tribes: Ascend, since they are both free to play.

FTL is $10.

Also, go to GOG.com and revel in the glory of DRM-free timeless classics under $10 and jam-packed with extras (soundtracks, art, guides, etc).

You just missed the amazing Square deal.

I have heard good things about Dark Messiah of Might and Magic [http://store.steampowered.com/app/2100/?snr=1_7_suggest__13]. Also they are made by Arcane who made Dishonored which was amazing.

What's Bastion going for? Sounds about that price range.
Or FTL. That's good.

Dungeon Defenders is also on Steam Sale right now.

I have heard nothing but good things about Bindings of Isaac (comes highly recommended via acornfilms, though I lack a game pad for my pc), FTL and Bastion. since I'm not sure when my income will pick up again, which do you feel has the better time:money spent ratio?

You could buy a whole other game with the $4 you'd have left over after buying this. [http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/arcanum_of_steamworks_and_magick_obscura]

Not Bastion. Although it is a brilliant game, and has some replay value, it is nowhere near The Binding of Isaac or FTL in terms of bang for your buck.

I can't personally vouch for FTL (I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I haven't gotten the chance to play it myself, yet), but I do have The Binding of Isaac, and I can tell you that if that game is able to suck you in, you will get your money's worth out of it. Here is a demo if you're not sure.

Yeah, OP. Go check out GOG.com. You've been given great advice, and you'll have your pick of a whole lot of great games for $10 and under. Enjoy!

You're almost sure to get more time out of the other games than Bastion, good as it is. It's not even a question of quality vs quantity. All of these games are great.

You don't need a gamepad for The Binding of Isaac. I don't play it with one. Keyboard controls work just fine. Since every new game is random (in terms of rooms, enemies, and powerups), it stays fresh. FTL and Binding of Isaac are both roguelikes, so my previous sentence applies to both. FTL is more strategy, Binding of Isaac is more action. Take your pick of which you prefer, because they'll both last you a long time.

Ya, FTL is awesome and cheap, I assume £6 is roundabout £8. If I pluck random exchange rates from 8 years ago out of the ether XD

Also i'm not certain but you may be able to get Bayonetta for maybe a tad above that price, depending on whether your local game shop has a preowned sale or something going on. That game is awesome

Fallout 3 used maybe.
Fallout 3 is amazing, but something I have already played through more times than I would care to count. Checked out the demo for BOI; incredibly fun. Thanks to everyone for your input, it is greatly appreciated. Guess I now have the problem of too many choices instead of too much boredom! Given the decision between BOI, FTL or Arcanum, (all of which sound perfect for what I want) does anyone have a strong recommendation one way or the other? I really don't know why it took me so long to join this community, you guys are awesome!

The only reason I am concerned about Bindings of Isaac is that despite the incredibly fun gameplay, I feel I might become bored if the story doesn't also change along with it. While it is extremely tight in the "play" department, does anybody feel that that either of the other two would provide more enjoyment story wise, as well as providing a solid gameplay experience?

Thief II is currently $10 on Steam. If you like stealth FPS games then I'd pick this up. I describe it as everything that Assassin's Creed wanted to be, but never could.

Having just finished off my first playthrough of Hitman: Blood Money (on Pro no less, because I am apparently a sadistic masochist) I was looking for something in a a little less stealth oriented direction, although I hear from friends and reviewers that Thief II is phenomenal as well. And as far as...

I am already damning DustyDrB to hell for introducing the old school gamer in me to the digital equivalent of black tar heroin.

Never heard it put THAT way, but, yeah...

Great site, nice extras, games patched to latest version plus fixed a little to work with a 'modern' OS.

The GOG MOO2 works better then my original copy.

Bored and poor? Warzone 2100. OOne of the most interest RTS games in my opinion and is completely free and maintained by fans since the source code and assets got released to the public when the studio went bust. Brilliant campaign mode too. http://wz2100.net/
